The DH/MR Cheat
If you want to re-sign one of your own players for far less money, here's what you do. If he's a position player, knock his position down to DH and negociate the contract. Then, after he signs the contract, return him to his original position. For Starting Pitchers and Closers, knock him down to Middle Reliever.
I plead the 5th on this one.

This has been mentioned about 5,783 times AND as far as I am concerned is a cheat and if you want to cheat "yourself" fine. Some parts of the game are meant to be adjustable and it is sad that falks try to exploit every little hole then cry for Markus to "patch it" when he could be spedning the time making other things deeper and more of a challenge.

Relax, Steve. I don't make a habit of researching the entire board before I post something. Get some sleep, ok?

And I didn't do it, either. I am innocent.
BTW Steve, I heard your Atlanta Admirals in the AFA suck really bad. You might want to get a second opinion...ask Erich. He agrees! Heheh.

I think we could spend a whole day on how to cheat the AI .... it shouldn't be like that but it is, just like it is in every freaking game made ...... I do not cheat the game but that's just me, anybody who feels the need to cheat to win that is up to them but there are not alot of console or computer games that you can't do this .... I am currently playing Hitman 2 on the PS2 I think the game is hard as h***, getting a walkthrough would make it alot easier but I am never happier than when I throw the controller in disgust claiming the game is too freaking hard .... so I spend 50$ and spend an hour a day for 6 months with the game rather than getting a walkthrough or looking up cheat codes and finishing it in ten hours .... it's much enjoyable to win any game with playing it fair .... the trade AI in this game is pretty damn good right now so people are posting other ways to cheat it ..... I understand this it's human nature to do so, but win a World Series without it, you feel much more of a sense of accomplishment .... just my .02 ... but I'm a freaking fanboy too LOL

I started a thread about this about three days ago.
And I don't think this one can be brush off by simply " cheat as you wish and nobody cares, you cheater!" First of all it is just wrong for the program to value a player by his listed position only, instead of the whole package. You do not ignore Darin Erstad's amazing outfielder ability even when he spend some playing time at 1B or DH. However the game will indeed give Darin Erstad a lesser contract if he's forced to play a position not his best. This game apparently will not reward a player for versatility. Yes, this flaw is big enough for people to post as a "cheat". Some how it's still regarded as a " little hole". The "pitcher role" stuff might still be debatable, but not this one, cheat or whatever you'd like to call it.

Its regarded as a cheat because if you knowingly switch a player's position because he will sign for less money then any way you slice it then you are cheating, especially if after they player signs the contract then you switch him back to his regular position. |

This brings up the whole MR/CL debate again. Why would a 6 rated closer get as much as a 9 rated MR when they are absolutely interchangeable?
Anyway, I never draft or sign closers, I think it's a waste of money.

...in online leagues don't the commishes have to input the contracts anyway? Frankly, if I saw like A-Rod listed as a DH, i'd just set him back to his position and use those demands. Same with reliever Pedro Martinez. |

Though a minor point. The AI will use a player based on his primary position as well, so if you change a player to 'DH', then the game will use him as such.

LOLJust a passing comment... "Anything" you can do in the game that you can't do in real life is "cheating". Plain and simple. Although it would be nice if these things weren't allowed, it's not the job of the game to protect the player from himself. In a solo league you are what you are... you play according to your own rules, so it's simply not an issue. That's part of the reason I don't have a problem with House Rules. In an online league, it's the job of the commish to play "policeman". Granted, anything the game can do to help him accomplish that would be great - but once again, an "exploit" missed does not a poor game make.... In all the years I've played in various leagues there are two types of people... those that will win at any cost and those that know the difference between right and wrong. If your lucky, you get involved in a league of owners from the second group. If not, you have to enforce certain rules. If the game could be made "bullet proof" then these issues wouldn't surface, but no game can ever be THAT good. Knowing the difference between right and wrong, and wanting to enjoy the experience rather than the "win" is what makes both solo play and online leagues great. Henry |
