ORB readies for 1985 LCS matchups
Other Reality Baseball (ORB) is getting ready for the 1985 League Championship Series. A preview...
Brewers vs. A's matchups Positional matchups of the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Oakland Athletics. C: Stearns (MIL) vs. Petralli (OAK) Petralli had a mildly successul rookie season but his offense was low. Meanwhile, Stearns is one of the top catchers in baseball after being a FA signee. Advantage: MILW 1B: Cooper (MIL) vs. Perkins (OAK) The A's were hurt by Dan Driessen's season ending injury. Perkins performed as well as can reasonably be expected but he is just a singles hitter at best. Cooper, after being non tendered by the Brewers, re-signed in free agency and hasn't disappointed with a .296/20/108 season. Advantage: MILW 2B: Herr (MIL) vs. Remy (OAK) Neither one of these players will hurt you offensively. They are both known to get on occasionally and steal bases. The clear difference is the defensive abilities. While Remy doesnt hit much, he doesn't field much either (23 errors, .976 fielding percentage). Herr is a slightly worse hitter, but a MUCH better fielder, he's Gold Glove caliber (3 errors, .995 fielding percentage). Advantage: MILW 3B: Molitor (MIL) vs. Lansford (OAK) Lansford is better in the field, but Molitor offensively is an MVP candidate. He's been the man who makes the Milwaukee offense go (.308, 16, 93, 25 SB). Advantage: MILW SS: Yount (MIL) vs. Foley (OAK) Even though Yount had a subpar season by Yount standards, he's still clearly better than Foley. This completes the infield sweep for the Brew Crew.Advantage: MILW LF: Roenicke (MIL) vs. Henderson (OAK) Here's where the tides turn. The Brewers have been getting by in the OF, while the A's have one of the league's best OF's. It starts with Rickey, the best leadoff hitter in the game. Roenicke was a pleasant surprise, turning in a .861 OPS in limited playing time, actually above Henderson's by quite a bit. Still.... Advantage: OAK CF: Butler (MIL) vs. Evans (OAK) Speaking of MVP candidates, Dwight Evans is certainly a candidate. Butler was an upgrade as the Brewers leadoff hitter, but to debate this is silly. Advantage: OAK RF: Brouhard (MIL) vs. Murphy (OAK) This is actually a close one. By the number OPS, Brouhard shades Murphy. But then when we look at SB, Brouhard= 0, Murphy= 41. Advantage: OAK DH: Phelps/Tabler (MIL) vs. Burroughs (OAK) Phelps is a freakshow, Tabler is too. Burroughs is a stud. Advantage: OAK Bench: Moore, Morrison, Stone, Hairston, Romero (MIL) vs. Heath, Sexton, Foli, Brown, Webster (OAK) These two benches are very weak. Only Stone is really worthy of mention. Still, we'll call it... Advantage: EVEN Starters: Fulgham, Higuera, Caldwell, Candelaria (MIL) vs. Beattie, Hitchcock, Swaggerty, Krueger (OAK) Fulgham and Caldwell are huge, but the overall depth of the Oakland rotation will give them the nod here. Advantage: OAK Bullpen: Gardner, Murray, Porter, McClure, Gibson (MIL) vs. Hood, McLaughlin, Shipannoff, Soto (OAK). Murray has been dominant, Gardner spectacular, and the addition of Gibson to the bullpen for the playoffs just adds more depth for the Crew. Oakland's relief crew is sufficient. Advantage: MILW Closer: Dawley (MIL) vs. Beard (OAK) This is a close one. Beard has the bigger numbers but each have shown signs of tiring down the stretch. Beard has a "history" of losing in a clutch situation, remember? Dawley has far more talent. Advantage: MILW Overall Batting (OPS): MILW .766, OAK .764 Advantage: EVEN Overall Pitching (ERA): MILW 3.90, OAK 3.69 Advantage: OAK Overall Fielding (PCT): MILW .977, OAK .980 Advantage: OAK Summary: MILW 7, OAK 7, EVEN 2. This could be a very exciting series that will be decided on who has the hot hand. Padres vs. Cubs match ups Player by player match up of the teams vying for the NL crown: C: Wockenfuss/Kennedy (SD) vs. Keith Moreland (CHI) Wockenfuss and Kennedy both hit for average and both had some pop for the season, Moreland hit .254 but had 18 homers, edge San Diego 1B: Willie Aikens (SD) vs. Leon Durham (CHI) Aikens had 23 homers and 100 rbis but his average was down there and he had a lot more k's than he normally has, while Durham had an MVP type season and challenged for the triple crown, edge Chicago 2B: Wayne Krenchicki (SD) vs Bump Wills (CHI) Krenchicki had a break through season, hitting .313 with 10 homers and playing great defense, Wills did well as well with 88 rbis and 32 steals but also made 43 errors, edge San Diego 3B: Lefebvre/Presley (SD) vs. Wayne Gross (CHI) Presley and Lefebvre are here for their defense, but Presley has some pop as shown by his 8 homers in under 200 at bats, Gross hit 20 homers and batted .291 and played good defense, edge Chicago SS: Alan Trammell (SD) vs Ivan DeJesus (CHI) Trammell was arguably the Padres MVP hitting 23 homers and stealing 27 bases and only making 13 errors, DeJesus batted .291 and stole 32 bases but made 26 errors, edge San Diego LF: Steve Kemp (SD) vs Andre Dawson (CHI) Kemp had his best season in the NL so far with 15 homers and 83 rbis while Dawson hit 22 homers and batted .313, edge Chicago CF: Von Hayes (SD) vs. Jerry Mumphrey (CHI) Hayes had a decent season overall, .278 with 14 homers and 24 steals, Mumphrey hit .310 with 84 rbis and 41 steals, edge Chicago RF: Mike Davis (SD) vs. Juan Beniquez (CHI) Davis hit .290, Beniquez .301, power and speed numbers were similar, tie Bench: Pretty even here, both teams got some good guys on the bench who can hit SP: Show, Young, Dravecky (SD) vs. Smith, Proly, Tibbs, Burns (CHI) All 3 Padres starters had sub 3.50 eras, one of Chicago's best starters the Count is in the bullpen, edge San Diego Bullpen: San Diego has Frank Williams (2.79) Donnie Moore (3.54) and Al Holland (3.63), Chicago has Gene Walter (3.99), Dan Morogiello (3.08) and Andy McGaffigan (4.17), edge San Diego Closer: Luis Deleon (SD) vs. Hernandez/Brown (CHI) Deleon was nearly unbeatable, the Cubs counter with two unknowns, edge San Diego Chicago has the edge hitting 4-3-1, San Diego has the edge pitching 3-0 so it should be a close one.

Well, the A's smacked up my beloved Brewers, 4 games to 1.
Meanwhile, the CUBS came back from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3 games to 2 lead into Game 6.

Always looking for active participants. We do have a Participation Point system with minimum standards, so if that isn't something you could commit to please take that into consideration.
Would love to see some more folks stop by though. Might be a couple open franchises popping up.

The CUBS, in come from behind fashion throughout the LCS, have defeated the Padres in seven games and will face the A's in the World Series.
Should be a great matchup of stellar starting pitching (Oakland) versus the best offense in baseball (Chicago).
