Human Managers who don't own OOTP27
I'm very new to OOTP and trying like hell to make a website where I can post results and run a league as commissioner... I would like to invite friends as human managers. BUT they don't have the game, so it's view only, and then they text or call me to change their lineups, rotations, or roster moves/trades.
I'm missing something. The league standings and team reports are easily posted on a website...but that doesn't show the human managers their lineups, etc. Please tell me there's an easy answer that I am missing. I just got this game. Thanks!!! |

It was an innocent question. The "human managers" would only be viewers to my results. I will totally encourage them to buy the game, but I just want to have fun adjusting lineups and rotations as they watch the season progress for the teams they "manage."
I guess my central question is: is there a good set of manager reports I can share with outsiders? In a way, it's a free promotion of the game...hopefully, some will want to buy and live manage/gm with me? Sorry if these are dumb questions--I'm brand new. Thanks in advance for any reply. |

While I understand what you're asking, when you simplify what you're asking you are kinda sorta asking how people who don't own the game can have access to the game and then just "play" it through you.
In all honesty though, if your friends are big baseball heads who take your proposition very seriously they are going to be changing lineups on a daily basis......... it seems like you're potentially really creating A LOT of work for yourself |

Thanks. Yes, it is potentially a lot of work for me, but the group of friends I would invite are more interested in following results than they are making lots of changes. For this group, it'd be more about trash talk and asking me to make a change now and then...but most of them just going to let the A.I. manage 95% and enjoy laughing and trash talking about the results for their respective teams.
It's a silly family and friends league. For example, one "human manager" might be "Uncle Peter," who has been dead for 12 years, but we'd name him GM/manager of his beloved Mets. Still--politely--my original question remains: Is there a report with team lineups and rotations that can be shown or sent externally? |

No.
Politely, this has been answered. You're looking for a work around to having one license for 4, 8, 12 "GM's" and Uncle Pete, where you do the work for them and post results. |

Nothing wrong at all with what you're trying to do. Been done in the past, and not just with OOTP. People still do it now with lots of games.
Managing a team through a web site happens all the time, anyone who plays fantasy sports does it. He's not letting people play the game through him, they'll never be able to play the game unless they buy it. When creating your league, in league setup there's an option to make it an online league. Use that, then you can select the reports you want to upload. Good luck, hope you and your friends have fun. If all goes well, maybe OOTP will gain some new customers. I'm sure once they start having fun with it, some of them will feel compelled to buy it. |

Not Really That Polite

"GM" and "human manager" was in quotes because we know non-game owners cannot even play those roles--however--I really would have thought there was a way to show my league to others, where they can just VIEW team lineups and rotations. You told me there is no way. Thank you, and be safe out there on patrol. |

What about trying remote apps so I hey can see your desktop. You could upload files to one drive, or can you make a private twitch channel. There is also someone working on a website that might have what you are looking for but he is doing a redesign.

Even if there isn't a specific report per se, an old fashioned screenshot might work for your purpose.

Actually, YES:
Friends,
This report page (linked below) was actually all I needed to let "human manager" friends view "their" team... and all I had to do was to scroll down a bit on the team page! Thanks for all the discussion. It's not easy being the new kid! https://mcelgreats.github.io/ootp/teams/team_3.html Still working on the graphics, pics, but I'm having fun working on this. Thanks again, Forum. Last edited by bmcelroy8; 07-10-2026 at 01:45 PM. Reason: Typos |

I don't really see this as being any different than making a website for MLB The Show or Madden and posting results. Would be different if the op was allowing each team owner to use his license.
Its like when people create youtube videos of their ootp league and take advice from viewers. However i would advice everyone in the league to get the game. Might be a lot of work and a wrong move could be made and you know who would get the blame. Plus i would guess that interest would fall more quickly than when players actually have the game. |
