Expansion or Flip a team

As posted in another thread. I like to play without interleague play. But using a modern league setup with an odd number of teams in each league messes with the schedule. My first thought was to expand by 2 teams, one in each league. My other idea is to just move a team to the other league. Will having diffrent amount of teams in each league present any issues? At this point, I would rather flip a team than expand. Any input is greatly appreciated.

You can expand your league from 'League Functions' page. To expand your league, from the League Functions page, click on the Expand League & Expansion Draft, or select the same value from the Functions action menu at the bottom of the page. This will open the League Expansion Wizard.

I know how to expand a league; I have done it many times. I was wondering what the downsides would be if I switched teams to the other league?

I think the first thing you would want to do is check the schedule file to see if there is a 16/14 or 14/16 schedule available that doesn't feature interleague play. You can't simply tell the game to generate a schedule. OOTP comes with a lot of schedules, so hopefully there's one you can use.

If not, there are tons of schedules available in the mod section. I'm too dumb to tell you how to use them, but I'm sure someone on here can help you.

I think the nice thing about flipping over expanding is not having to mess with the minor leagues.

Using the downloaded schedules is super easy, you just copy them into the same folder the game uses for the other thousand schedules that come packaged with the install.

Manually load the schedule during the preseason, and "ta-da", you're golden.

For what it's worth, Major League Baseball operated this way in 1961 when the American League expanded by 2 to 10 teams and the National League remained at 8 teams. The two leagues really were separate and to a certain extent competitive or at least not aways cooperative in this period.

From 1977 to 1982 there were 14 AL and 12 NL teams. The leagues were a lot more integrated by this point, although there was still at least one rule difference (the DH). I'm not sure if the tiebreaker rules were the same at this point. In the earlier era they were different (playoff series in NL, but a single game playoff in AL). They may also still have had independent umpiring corps.

Anyway, it's not unprecedented historically, and the game handles it fine as long as you make sure you are using a schedule appropriate for what you want..
