Random Debut gamer Questions

1. What size reserve roster do you play with ? I have been using 26 active and 24 reserve spots but I think that might be too heavy.

2. What size draft do you use ? With the above set up I have been using a 5 round draft and feel like that is a pretty solid.

3. Can you alter the composition of the draft. I feel like too many relief pitchers are coming into the game and the reserve roster are about 80% RPs. Anyway to set a percent of Batters and Pitchers entering the game ?

4. Is there anyway with Reserve Rosters to set the equivalent of minor league free agency like you can in games with minors enabled? End up with a lot of guys hanging around for 10 years with 32 days of service time until they all retire at age 35.

On #3, that's just the mix of baseball players in history mirroring back at you. Increase the draft size to offset all the cup of coffee guys. I use draft of 8 with 7 rounds of drafting and I'll adjust that if needed. That's for an RD game back in time with 16 teams. If you have the current number of teams and only 5 rounds that seems shallow. You can always not use the Reserve Clause and just do a AAA level so options years, minor league FA, Rule 5 draft, etc. are in play.

If I set it up as a AAA level with a 0 or 2 game schedule is that going to affect development?

I am not really interested in running a minor league or accruing stats but that seems like a very good idea to get some roster rules to work.

Hmmmm, a short schedule like that might. I use Recalc when I play so development in my game is disabled. When I have the AAA in-play in RD, I also use ghost players to infill in case rosters get short. The idea is just to get the guys playing time and stats I can judge along side ratings (even if they are, in my game, just historical on recalc). Afterall, there's no fun having anyone sit on the pine for 15 years even that random 1973 one IP random reliever. At least with AAA - esp. in one where ghost placeholder guys are necessary, he plays.

I don't do recalc and do like development on just to get some randomness. I am going to play around with this and see if we can figure out some answers on the difference between a no play AAA or a Reserve Roster.

I always use reserve rosters when playing random debut. I do not set a limit on the number of players teams can have on their reserve rosters. My draft sizes tend to change. For my current league, I started out using 7 rounds with enough players created for 9. I've also used 6 rounds with enough for 8. I'm currently using 6 rounds with enough for 7 rounds. If I know I will be expanding, I will sometimes up it to 9/10 for a few years.

I use 3 year recalc, but I also use development. I play with injuries set to very high for both short and long term injuries. I also use high fatigue.

I despise players playing out of position, so I like teams to have enough players on their rosters that I don't see a bunch of red 1's all over the field. Nothing sucks more than firing up the game and seeing Tom Veryzer starting at catcher for a big league team.

As to the relief pitcher deal, I think some of those guys end up starting over time.
