Ending a player's rehab assignment and keeping them at AAA

Is there a way to end a player's rehab assignment and keep them at AAA without activating them to the active roster, if the player in question has options remaining? It seems like I have to make room on the active roster by demoting a different player and then promoting them again. Is there an easier way?

what has worked for me is to demote player to aa, then promote said player to aaa...

I have the same issue, so let me try the AA option soon. But it is clearly something the game should fix.

Yes, I've also noticed this.

For example, IRL on July 30, the Cubs activated Porter Hodge from the 15-day DL and immediately optioned him to AAA.

I have always hated this myself. I normally would option someone from the Active roster that I already used an option for. Never tried the AA option. Let me try that next time.

If i have a player coming off the IL that i know i don't want to put on the active roster i just move them to AAA rather than use the rehab assignment.

Only use rehab with someone who can't be optioned to AAA

If the player has options, you should just designate the player for assignment (without waiving him). From there you can demote him back to AAA immediately.

If the player has options, you should just designate the player for assignment (without waiving him). From there you can demote him back to AAA immediately.

I tried that, and it told me that since he was on the 40-man roster, he needed to go through waivers.

By the way, I did the "send someone to AAA to make room on the roster, activate the guy on the rehab assignment, demote him to AAA, then promote the guy I demoted to make room" thing, and the guy I demoted to make room still has a zero for "times optioned this season". So I guess there's really no downside to going that route.

If you let the rehab assignment max out, the player will be DFA'd then you can demote them. No worries about waivers. At least that's what I've done in my online leagues when I want to keep a guy at AAA. I expect it would work the same in a "regular" game.
