DH idea
I've never been a fan of the DH, thus have seldom enabled it, even for the AL in all the replays I have done.
But I hit upon an idea that spices things up for my Cubs replays, for which I play out all that team's games: Use the DH for every league--but on Sunday only, which simply entails going into League Settings, Rules and checking the right boxes. Advantages are fairly obvious: Give some degree of rest to one of your iron men, give ABs to a good pinch hitter who hasn't been needed lately, reduce injury vulnerability to (usually) starting pitchers . . . You just have to remember to switch back to no DH after all Sunday games are played. Anyone else used this or a variation thereof? From an ownership standpoint (not my main spere of interest), it would probably make more sense to do this midweek, since Sunday is almost always a peak attendance day anyway. But from a seamhead perspective, the once-weekly DH usage has many advantages, IMHO. |

Interesting.
Have you seen the AI do any weird transactions or do you enable it the day of the games, sim the games, then disable it before proceeding to the next day? How is the AI in terms of picking a guy to DH? This version has been much better but in years past it has made some crazy line-up decisions like batting the slowest lowest OBP guy first, etc

this is actually a pretty interesting idea, for both real life and the game. I mean, the cat is out of the bag IRL, but limiting the use of the DH sounds neat. I could even get on board with something crazy like each team gets one game a week where they could use a DH but they could choose the day. It would certainly make players like Ohtani even more valuable because you wouldnt have to waste a DH when he pitches

Dh idea
That was actually the first idea I had a year or so ago, but don't think there is a way to m make it work in OOTP. But the advantages are definitely there. And in my version, neither team would know until the lineup cards were exchanged . . . if in fact it were possible to keep your choice secret.
So in a 3-game series, you could have a game when only one team was DHing or one game when both were . . . or one in which none were. A second-guessing festival for sure and adds a little spice to the 162-game grind! (Jayson Stark would have a new shiny object to play around with.) While I'm add it, as I've said before, should be way in OOTP to keep the automatic runner at bay until, say, the 12th. |
