Lightbulb OOTP 26 Master Changelist

In preparation for the launch, we thought we'd share the full changelist for the new version. We will keep the document updated with the patches over the course of the cycle.

Thanks for your support.

You and the team have been working hard, that is quite a list. I guess we'd have to say "26 is a bit more than just a roster update"?

It won't affect my on going game, but the offseason start should make a lot of users happy.

After that there are so many nice upgrades that it makes it hard to say what is the best. Looking forward to seeing the improvements Friday when Steam releases.

I may have missed this so apologies if so, but with the new dev lab, when you pull someone out halfway through when struggling they receive the same impact as if they finished the program struggling. What happens in the case where they have a different progress status, such as excelling?

Thanks as always for the hard work and cracking game!

Awesome list! Can't wait to order the game as soon as I am done with my current season.

One tiny, small request: is there any chance you can add "Average Game Score" for starting pitchers? (Currently, you can find the Bill James Game Score for each game, but an average would be great, too.) I know it is not a perfect stat, but it is fun to get a general sense of a starting pitcher's effectiveness via this stat. No big deal, but I thought I'd ask.

Will just free up the spot without any impact on their ratings. Although they may receive a small hit to morale

Master Changelist

Negro Leagues Players
Added new Equivalency data for player ratings, to better capture the true value, for a select group of players
Negro League players can now be enabled to show up in games without historical minors selected, either traditional historical games or Random Debut games
They will appear as free agents in MLB games, and the color barrier will default off in that setup

Is there a setting for you need to change for Negro Leagues Players (other then the include negro league players at the start of set up)
to show up in games without historical minors selected, in Random Debut games?

So far, for me, they are entering at the age/year they actually entered MLB and ones that were restricted from playing, never appear in the draft.
I am using a 1871 starting date, with all years being selected from.

I tried it a second time, and it seemed to work correctly. Don't know what I missed........

If I was to guess you forgot to disable color barrier

the start in offseason start date option is great if you want to add teams right away

Exclamation Beta Suggestion

The 40-man rosters only have 25-30 players on them.

I feel like this has happened in recent years in the beginning as well, which is obviously understandable (it's the Beta).

But it would be really nice not to have to manually fix the 40-man rosters for all 30 teams by main launch day.

I am noticing that some guys who are out of options are just sitting in AAA which wouldn't be the case since they would need to clear waivers.

The AI is going to disagree with irl teams on some of those players so, if you set all the 40-mans to what they actually are, the AI is going to start clearing guys it doesn't like and adding ones it does resulting in a ton of Day One, league-wide churn. I believe it is a completely practical consideration to let the AIs round out their 40-mans.

We've never had correct 40-man rosters in the beta or the release version.

As Lansdowne mentions, it can potentially create too much AI havoc, so we much prefer letting the AI fill these out itself as time goes on, as we feel like it provides the better experience for the majority of users.

Oh my god, you adjusted and made the difference between Ability and Tools scouts more relevant. This is a great addition.

I love the new Draft stuff, this was a really good focus. The confetti on high picks was funny and unexpected.

Roster/AI/Engine
  • Updated internal ratings scale upper limits (now ~600 max, instead of 550)
  • Greatly improved fan interest and fan loyalty logic, and the fan reaction email now corresponds more accurately to the actual reaction.
  • Updated minor league AI roster management, to be more aggressive at releasing blocking players, and to pay more attention to minor league placement for top talents
  • Updated players, so that players have an explicit velocity to grow towards as they develop, and use that for projecting potential ratings
  • Updated player creation/development, to give more variety and profiles to players.
  • Players created with more varied ratings
  • Player development will follow some alternate development paths
  • Improved splits ratings among players
  • Improved players crashing in current/potential ratings around age 24-25
  • Added IBB modifier, league totals adjusted to not include IBB in calculations
  • Updated internal engine with many adjustments - stealing rates, bunting rates, error rates, much much more

All good changes, but as of OOTP25 AI GMs and Assistant GMs still cut blue-chip prospects. That won't change for 26. If anything is a game-killer it's that. I don't always catch them in time before they've been signed by someone else. Otherwise, I have to go into Commissioner mode and edit them back into the organization that cut them.

Kudos

Love what you all have done with this version! I know you put in a lot of hard work (and will continue to do so). This is just an example of what you guys do year in and year out. Keep up the great work!
