Historical Defensive Recalc
Hi Guys!
Picking this up for the first time in a while, and perhaps forgot something. Do the Defensive Ratings & Defensive Positions Recalc in OOTP19 like the Batting & Pitching ones? I've got everything set for 3 Year Recalc & Double Weight for the current year. Player Dev is turned off. Started with 1970, and just this the rollover to 1972. The 7 players that I track in a spreadsheet haven't changed their defense at all. They are at their ratings set when importing into 1970. The batting & pitching ratings always update at the end of the season. Stamina doesn't appear to be updating. For example, 1972 Nolan Ryan sitting at 74 stamina. If I created a separate league starting at 1972 as the import, there is no way Ryan would be at 74 even with the lower 1971 (1x) number relative to the robust 1972 (2x) + 1973 (1x). On the fielding side, I worry about my young Bobby Grich sitting on a 45 2B rating, being stuck at that number when I don't think he would rate as a 45 at 2B until 1983. I do want Pete Rose to pop up as a 3B, then eventually as a 1B. Same with Rod Carew's position move. Same with pitchers moving into Starters, or Starters moving to the BP. Also don't want player stuck with their initial fielding rating is it's inflated/deflated relative to their careers. Is there a setting I'm missing for both Fielding, POS and Stamina? If I don't have that on, is there a method to manually force a league wide Stam+Defense recalc each rollover? Thanks! You guys have always been helpful with questions. |

Here is a link to the 19 manual.
https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com...-settings-page There are specific settings for fielding and stamina (apart from and not to be confused with the 1-year, 3-year and 5-year recalc settings): Base Rookie Fielding Ratings on: Defines whether to base rookie fielding ratings on the current season, a 3-year span, or their entire career. Base Pitching Stamina on: Defines whether to base pitching stamina on the current season, a 3-year span, or their entire career.

It's that it doesn't update in coming seasons for Defensive Rating, Stamina and likely Position. Like Batting & (Other) Pitching Ratings. How does one set Defense: (a) to be like Offense in updating year-by-year (b) to factor in positional changes such as Rose, Yount, Carew, Molitor, Torre, etc. On the first, this is the best example I can come up with: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/bo...ts?position=2B For whatever reason, he imports into 1970 as a mediocre 2B. I don't really care as I had no intention of playing him in 1970 & 1971, saving his rookie campaign for 1972. In Real Life, Grich was a great defensive 2B in 1972-1975. He became an above average-to-good defensive 2B after that through 1982. Yet I'm now in 1972, his defense hasn't changed to that Gold Glove level, it's the exact same number as originally imported in 1970. Am I missing a setting for this (and Stamina & POS) being updated each rollover? Or for some reason was Defense + Stamina + POS not updated like Batter Ratings & (other) Pitcher ratings in the 19th version of out beloved game? ![]() |

It could be an issue with using the Neutralized Stats vs. Real Stats?
The Neutralized database has occasionally had issues over the years. |

Running a quick 1970-1972 test in a new league turning off the Neutralized aspect: Grich 1970 --> 1971 --> 1972 2B: 44 --> 43 --> 79 SS: 58 --> 71 --> 60 Checking on two of the more obvious/famous position changes: Wilbur Wood transitioned from a RP in 1970 to a SP in 1971. Tony Perez transitioned from a 3B to a 1B in 1972. Okay, that works! Thanks! I like the concept of the Neutralized database dealing with over inflated / under inflated players, so a little annoying to lose that. I does look like the Real vs Neutralized can be adjusted between seasons. I'm not far into the replay, and have backed up after each season. Probably even have a backup before the start of 1970. Thanks again! |
