Possible Bug - Relief Pitchers

I encountered the following problem and was wondering if anyone else has seen it. I inserted a reliever with 2 out in the 8th. My catcher immediately threw out a baserunner for the third out. I batted in the bottom of the eighth and then attempted to switch to my closer for the 9th. I got a message saying that my pitcher must face at least one batter. When this occured, my current pitcher, who threw one pitch in the eighth, no longer had a position listed. Right-clicking did not give the choice of changing his position to pitcher. I was, thus, left without a pitcher and unable to continue the game.

This is really two problems:

1) MLB Rule 3.05 (b) states: "If the pitcher is replaced, the substitute pitcher shall pitch to the batter then at bat, or any substitute batter, until such batter is put out or reaches first base, or until the offensive team is put out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness which, in the umpire in chief's judgment, incapacitates him for further play as a pitcher. " (Italics mine)

So, in this case, the pitcher can be substituted.

2) The attempted substitution obviously shouldn't make the game unplayable, even in the case of an attempted illegal substitution.

Has anybody else seen this or anything similar?

Steve,

The problem is not in trying to use him at another position. The problem is that his position disappeared entirely when I tried to legally substitute for him, and I was not able to restore the position to pitcher.

Sorry, had alot of "pitcher as pinch-runner" or whatever lately.

go to "show opponents" and you can continue the game from that screen
