Historical Drive to the Pennant

I seem to be having issues with a Historical Drive to the Pennant. I did the 1986 season, and it worked fine, but when I try other seasons it seems to be playing a different mode. It has me play complete games instead of just coming in at strategic moments. Am I doing something wrong?

Your post implies you are advancing to other seasons as opposed to ending the sim and starting a brand new game in some other year. If that's the case, see below:

"Once you have completed the season, whether successfully with a trophy, making it through the playoffs, or falling short, you may choose to continue the game afterwards as a regular game, resuming full controls, in either regular or challenge mode. Or you can go back and start up a new drive with another team, and see how your luck fares."

I guess I should clarify better. I played one game for 1986 and it worked fine. I ended the SIM though, started over again, and it's not starting up correctly. It's in Standard mode and having me play full games instead of Drive to the Pennant mode.
