Team Relocation

I am playing a Decade Save of the 1970's. Just finished 1971, managing the Pirates. This is a save that allows trades. Fictional players are also incorporated with actual players. While waiting for V26 to be released, I am considering relocating my team. Bringing them to East Tennessee - new name / new stadium / new uniforms. The stadium should be easy. I think the uniforms would be also.. However, I think the team name would affect scheduling and many other things. The divisions will be the same, so the only thing to modify is the team name. Is it worth the work? If so, what exactly is involved? Any input is appreciated!!!!

I believe the game uses a team's ID number to make the schedule, or anything else it needs a specific team for. As long as you only change the name you should be fine. As always BACKUP before making changes, just in case.

I play a standard MLB setup that started in v4 (2002) that I've imported all the way to v25. In that time, in MLB, I've changed things like "Chicago (N) Cubs" that was the default to "Chicago Cubs" and had no issue with schedule being generated. I did this also to the three other teams that had league designations in their names, ie White Sox, and both New York teams. Also in this time I had to rename the Expos to the Nats, Devil Rays to Rays etc. Again no scheduling issues. Then add in the multiple minor league teams that went through name changes and locations without scheduling issues.

As long as you are waiting for v26 have you considered making the changes now in v25, and then they should import into v26? I would make a backup of your league, make the name change there, and then simulate forward to the next season to confirm the schedule works out. You could also get a head start on uniforms, logos, ballpark, etc. etc. and have that all ready to go when v26 releases.

If for some reason something goes wrong you still have your original v25 game in tact and could import that into v26 and make the changes there. I don't think there is any reason the schedule will go wrong due to the name change, or anything else for that matter. But it is always best to be safe with a backup before making any changes.

EDIT:
The one thing that gives me pause is you are playing a historical season where there are a ton of options. Real lineups, how real players come into the league etc. etc.
Again I'll still say that team ID is the key, so I think it all still works. Could be another historical player comes in with a bunch of potential problems? My game started MLB and became fictional through attrition, meaning I'm no expert on the ins and outs of historical. With that in mind, unless a historical guru comments in this thread with better information, I would definitely sim ahead in v25 from a backup to see what happens.

Moving from Oakland

My Oakland franchise just went from tiny market size to minimal and the cheap owner advised me that difference will negatively affect my already too small budget. So I moved to Big market Atlanta, built new stadium with Atlanta coordinates, and stayed in same division and league but changed name to Atlanta A's. So 2 teams in city like New York, Chicago, and LA. Market size, fan loyalty, and hapiness all stay the same as if I were still in Oakland. Anyway to update this? I have 25 and getting 26 in a few days.

In League Settings>Historical, turn off "Automatically Expand League". It does more than expand the league, it gives the teams their proper cities and gives them their proper names. It is how the Athletics go from Philly to KC to Oakland and how the Colt .45s become the Astros. It reads a file called Teams.csv in the /stats folder to know what to load.

If you want to change something like a city/name/stadium/etc., you need to untoggle that and then do your change. Then come the next year, your change will endure - but any other thing that was supposed to happen - like the Blue Jays appearing, you have to do manually, thru the League Settings>League & Teams>League Actions drop-down, during the off-season at the proper time.

What are you going to name them? You can't name them the Tennessee Distillers. That name is already used by the Pittsburgh football team.

Note: For those who don't know, that is the Yinzer pronunciation.

It's under your Team Settings page. It might require commissioner mode, though.
