Major overall rating drop after IL stint

I searched the forums to see if this was already discussed, and didn't find anything, so apologies if I missed a thread and this is a duplicate topic

I'm wondering if there's an IL glitch that causes spontaneous, major overall rating drop? I'm playing a Jays franchise, and part way through my second season, I have called up Ricky Tiedemann and he's currently a 70 overall potential and I think was like a 65 current. He got a season ending injury and was on the IL into the off-season. He was activated by the time Spring Training started and by the beginning of the Regular Season he had dropped to 45 overall potential and 45 overall current.

The weird thing is, as best that I can tell, is that the only attribute that dropped was control from 45 to 40 and the rest were at the rating as when he was 65/70.

Is this a known thing to happen? A glitch? Just bad luck? Any insight would be appreciated.

Is scouting at 100% before/after or is that an additional variable?

Major injuries can cause rating drops like that. Potentially this player had not been re-scouted after the injury until recently?

Old School Sports had a Starter Saldana with 40 Stamina, injured his UCL in spring training; when he came back his Stamina was 25 in the summer.
It did climb up to 30 by the time they were in the playoffs that fall.

You mean his scouting accuracy? Yes, with my head scout he was at Very High both before and after.

There was a player development email that included him when spring training ended. That’s when I noticed the huge drop in overall/potential.

Okay, so sounds like the drop-off could be injury related. I get it, happens IRL all the time. Players aren’t the same after some injuries. Just didn’t know if OOTP had a mechanic like that. It’s cool. Just sucks for me with that player. Appreciate the replies, everyone.

In my experience that mechanic usually kicks in right after I sign a pitcher to a long-term contract.
