NHL - Players signed to 1 year contract at the end of season

I have encountered an issue where NHL teams will sign a player to a 1 year contract at the very end of season - last week of June. In the case in the attached screenshot, they poached a player from me on 29th of June. They will not extend the player, who will just return to FA pool (with inflated salary expectations as a bonus ) - had this happen before, I just wanted to see if it would happen repeatedly, and it did after a couple seasons.

I will upload save after I sim to next season to confirm that the player enters free agency.

EDIT: As I thought, the player just entered free agency. Save = "end_season_contract"

EDIT2: I have looked through some of the NHL teams and found multiple instances (f.e. Bruins, Flames) signing players in the last couple days, though they seem to be multi-year contracts more often than not, but this still basically cuts off a year from it.

The contract says Entry level which means it is the first time they were ever signed. Being they are on the older end they weren't eligible for a longer deal.

I understand that, my point is that the AI should not do that. And it affects multi-year deals as well - they basically get cut down by a year because the AI is signing players on 28th or 29th of June instead of waiting a couple days until the new season.
