Confused About Coaching Rates
I have been playing OOTP since v6.5, so one would think I understand coaching ratings by now … but I don’t.
Why do some coaches (let’s say pitching coaches) have a good reputation but poor ratings? For example, I’m in the early 1980s with the Braves and my new pitching coach (the last one retired) has a reputation of Good, but his ratings are as follows: Handles Development Fair Influences Mechanics Fair Handles Aging Poor Teaches Pitching Fair Edit: I have scouting accuracy at 100% Also, why do many coaches refuse to sign my with team even despite the $ offered even though we have a good pitching staff and are coming off an 86-76 year? Thanks Last edited by Murph3; 12-14-2024 at 09:47 PM. |

Scouting does not mean anything when it comes to coaches.
I would ignore reputation. I have never used it and always focused mainly on how my coaches get along with each other and best ratings. Now do not quote me on this, I think your reputation matters to who you can hire. Also, from experience if you are hiring and firing coaches constantly, which I did in an online league, I hard a hard time getting better coaches. Now, that might just be me making that the reason in my head, but after a few years of not hiring or firing anyone and also winning a world series, I seem to be able to hire a lot more coaches. My rep is also really high, but I honestly do not know for sure if any of this effects hiring coaches. It is just a guess from what I think I have experienced.

What I look at with coaches.
(1) Teaching ratings in hitting or pitching. (2) Development and Mechanics (3) Relationship specifically and only with the players I want him teaching (in other words, I don't care if my hitting coach has a bad relationship with pitchers. I want his relationship to be excellent with the hitters, though). (4) For the base coaches and bench coach I look also at teaching baserunning and teaching defense. (5) For the base coaches I look also at in game running. |

Thanks for the info.
Good News: After getting into January, a pitching coach who previously refused to accept an offer from me changed his mind and signed. Reputation: Good Handles Development: Excellent Influences Mechanics: Outstanding Handles Aging: Excellent Teach Pitching: Legendary So I’m a happy camper tonight ![]() Last edited by Murph3; 12-14-2024 at 10:56 PM. |
