automatically control game engine
Here is a question. The suggestion is to click the box for minor leagues and feeders, so the game generates stat results right to the totals used above it.
Why then would you also not use that for your major league instead of the auto calc of modifiers? If this is suggested for minors (thus better than an auto calc for them) why would it also not be best for your top league? Anyone share an opinion on this. Thanks |

The question to me is... If autocalc works for MLB (and it has always worked great for me) why wouldn't I use it for my minor leagues?
I had always gotten good results for my minors NOT using this "control engine" feature. Then one year I was curious and thought I'd give it a try, and it returned the worst results I have ever seen. The next season I unchecked it and I was back to getting my normal good results. My suggestion is set your stats for minors to what you want and run autocalc as you do for the MLB. Only try the control option if you can't seem to get "realistic" results in your minors from autocalc. Again results from autocalc for my minors have always been fine. As to how "control engine" works? I have no idea. I can only assume it massages or clips stats instead of letting the ratings do all of the work. If that is it, it's something I would never want in my MLB, or minors for that matter. YMMV

I've come to find recalc with a force recalc in the preseason is the best. Locking totals is ok but there still is a lot of variance mostly due to the players in the league at the time and their ratings.
My issue with 25 has been getting the game to produce 'pretty' stats for modern day rosters. Seems like no matter what I do there are always guys who have 650 PA and hit .180 or worse. CPU roster management has also been a bit of a bugaboo. |

Now I am curious.
If both options kind of do the same thing, especially with now being able to set and forget auto-calc with a checkbox, it might be simpler to just have an on/off with one of them at all levels. Following this thread... |

Auto recalc looks at the ratings of the players in the league at that specific moment and translates the ratings into values (1B, 2B, HR, BB). Those values are then totaled and weighed vs historical MLB totals on the league options page. When the recalc occurs, those weights are taken into consideration as a modifier to produce totals more in line with any MLB season. I'm not sure if there is too much of a handicap in this method as there was in locking the totals other than sometimes your see some rather harsh swings in stats year to year across the board (not limited to 1 player). In the majors, I've found it beneficial statistically to force an auto-recalc in the preseason or on Opening Day if you can. This gives me totals based on the players on rosters at that moment which has produced better results. In the minors I've always let the engine recalc the totals and I don't seem to have any complaints except sometimes you see minor league teams do really, really awful. Like 2-92 or 0-44 type records, human and cpu teams. Anyway, this is kind of what I've sussed, I'm not sure if I'm missing anything or misrepresenting anything but after 20 years, running and playing in multiple online leagues, beta testing and all, this is the best I can tell. |
