Could you update the budget numbers for DEL Teams?

Hi there,

thanks for a great new FHM version.

One thing - more of a request for a patch - is the budget of the DEL teams, which seams many years out of date. We can manually change it in Commissioner mode, but why not have a general refresh. Its kind of needed for competing on the trade side.

Current budgets in game is between $2.5 - $4.7 Mio for DEL Teams. That feels more like FHM1 or 2.

Real Budgets are 3-5 times that number.

Here an article from one month ago citing the GM of Frankfurt for the budget of Frankfurt (~ €9 Mio), Berlin (>€20 Mio), Mannheim (>€20 Mio) and Munich (>€20 Mio):

...Having said that, and quickly checked a few ticket prices across some DEL teams. The ticket price also could use an adjustment upward around 50-100% across the board...

The numbers in your link are related to total budget of teams (including Arena rent, costs for backoffice, ...)
only 55-70% (depends on City - flats costs are more expensive in Berlin/Munich/Frankfurt as in Iserlohn) of total budget are for Staff and players.

from this amount you have to reduce costs for cars, flats, insurance costs...

an average DEL player gets a Salary (without extra stuff) between 80k and 150k per year
players like Gawanke and a handful of others are between 300k and 400

the numbers in your link would allow to sign a roster full of Gawanke players...

I think all the non north american teams need a financial adjustment. It would also be nice with promotion and relegation to have the teams finances go up or down as well.

Sure, I agree. However, it still does not add up.

FHM splits it up, you can see this in "League Finances" -> "Budget".

You have total budget, split into expenses to date, player payroll, staff payroll.

Total budget numbers for DEL teams in the game are USD 2.5 Mio - USD 4.75 Mio. That is EUR 2.3 - 4.3 Mio for total budget.

So take the high end of 4.3 Mio with your 70% (max.) for staff and player gives EUR 3 Mio for all players and staff.

No way that works out. Since you mention Gawanke lets take Mannheim. They have 27 players under contract, they have 9 coaches and (athletik-) trainers under contract, then you have 11 equipment managers, doctors, therapists. No idea how many scouts they pay in addition. On top of that comes the back office incl. the GM and the CEO.

Consider everything else that needs to be paid with a salary like insurance, pension fees, etc. no way in this world is the total budget of Mannheim EUR 4.3 Mio in total and there player/staff budget around EUR 3 Mio.

Lets assume Gawanke earns 300k-400k. But in the game his salary is at 250K up to the year 2029, which is lower than the range you suggested.

Another example, the game suggests that Dallas Eakins in his position as GM/Head Coach is at a yearly salary of USD 72K.

So long story short, still think all the DEL budget numbers and the salary numbers are higher in real live than in the game. Also ticket prices on average should be 50-100% higher. Look at Berlin. They charge between EUR 40-80 for a seat in real live. The game has it at USD 35 or EUR 33... Give that is an average number, and some seats sell at a reduction you also have business seats for a few hundreds of EUR. But lets take the game ticket price of EUR 33 x av. attendance of 11.000 x 26 home games and you already get close to EUR 10 Mio ticket fees. With this number, how can the in game budget be USD 4 Mio for Berlin ?

So, nobody knows everything for sure, however, in my eyes in game numbers are way too low..

do the calculation bottom up...

take a typical DEL roster and split in
Number of top players, number of good player, number of average players and number of bad players

few (<= 5) foreign player top stars make 275,000/year (info is from player agency)

some german top stars (<=10) make appr. 300,000/year (Michaelis, Rieder, Reichel)

rest of regular/good players is between 80,000 and 150,000

3rd goalies and low end U23 players make 50,000

these numbers are confirmed and much better to calculate player salary budget (the one you see in Annual Finances of each team)

GM and Coaches Salary: agree, are a bit low in all leagues
they are generated at game start and look absolutely random.

Ustorf as 'well know nationally' gets 5,000 / year
Reagan: 35,000/year with same reputation
Furchner: 63,000/year with 'known nationally'

Hmm, so the game says Mannheim has a player payroll of EUR 3.25 Mio. Given a total budget of over EUR 20 Mio as stated in the article, that makes roughly 16 % of the player payroll from the total budget.

Even considering all your overhead, taxes, insurances, backoffice, staff etc....

Is that still not a little bit low on the percentage side to spend on your players? How is this percentage for NA teams of the AHL?

Anyway, its not a hot issue, I can adjust it in commissioner mode - just something maybe to look into in the next months and if viable, an refresh of these numbers would be really great..
