Potential Based on Peak Seasons
Would “potential based on peak seasons“ mean that, if you’re playing historical, and you want someone who had a random big season in real life (e.g. Brady Anderson in 1996 when he hit 50 bombs, after barely being over 20 in all his other seasons) to have a shot at developing into that peak season, at any point/any season (assuming you have the developmental engine on, of course) that it could happen with “ Potential based on peak seasons?”
And so, if you DIDN’T check that, and had “potential based on remaining years” let’s say, then their ceiling would be lower than based on peak seasons, correct?

Yes, pretty much I think. I could be wrong and someone with more of knowledge of this should probably chime in rather than me, but I *think* it is more something like not their potential is exactly that 50 HR season because I don't think Brady Anderson has 80 grade potential upon creation in the historical draft IIRC but it might just include that season when it accumulates the data upon which to base his HR potential on. Not sure if it's like an average of the top 3 or something but I don't think it's simply the best one, but I could be wrong.

It should be as simple as that. But it is not and does not work. For instance many player have peak seasons AFTER age of 29. If you import them at 29 or later PEAK SEASONS are not used. Apparently because potential does not matter after 29. Very frustrating. All the cool what ifs (like the example you provide) won't work. Not sure how all the wonderful players who have played for years don't encounter this or care. |

FWIW I did a quick experiment on this. Mike Kingery had an outlier year in 1994 hitting like .350. His contact rating in 1994 thus was high- like a 70 or something. I checked the box “ Recalculate potential ratings each year based on overall peak seasons,” Simmed to the next year, 1995, where he didn’t have nearly ad good of a year. And It did not recalculate his Contact potential to stay at a 70. His overall and potential contact dropped to like a 55. So it appears this doesn’t work. Unless I’m doing something wrong. So, why even have this function as an option? |
