Time to Upgrade - Need Advice
Just finished season 1 of my 1970s Decade Save. Five days into the off season. Awards voting in progress and 4 trades have been made (one was involving my team).
I bought my 1st OOTP game a few months ago, OOTP 24, just before OOTP 25 was released. With the sale going on, and it being off season, it is time to upgrade. So, here is where I need advice. Running an IMAC, plenty of power and room. Bought OOTP 24 through the Apple APP store. But OOTP 25 is not available from the APP store, and doesn't appear that it will be. So, where should I get the game from - through STEAM, or direct from the company? What would be the easiest form to import my save to? Or is there any difference? I have never used STEAM, but know people who do, so I can get help from them. Any advantage to one or the other? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!!! |

If you be are playing historical games the steam version will allow you to more easily download and use historical mods from the steam workshops such as historical facegens, stadiums, and uniforms.
Historical play is significantly better in ootp25 too. Last edited by Garlon; 06-27-2024 at 10:30 PM. |

Steam automatically keeps the game updated with new patches. If you buy direct you will have to manually redownload the entire game every time a new patch is released. On the other hand, the Steam program itself consumes some resources (on the order of hundreds of megabytes of RAM).

I don't use Steam. Maybe a bit of a control freak, but I have never been comfortable with automatic updates and downloads, after some bad experiences. I'm happy to be the gatekeeper for downloads and installs. From the OOTP site, it's usually only a couple of minutes to accomplish an update. But YMMV. If you don't get a creepy feeling allowing a for-profit company to control things, have at it. Not for me.
