Doing Over 123 Years of History
As the title says, I'll be resimming 123 years of history, from 1901-2023.
I'll do monthly standings to keep the pace going a little faster. I'll show the monthly awards, notable games, league leaders, and any transactions made. I'll also quickly go through the offseason, showing the biggest signings, trades, etc. If I make any changes to the league myself, I'll tell you. As in real life, the World Series won't start until 1903, in which it will be a best-of-9. In 1905, it will switch to a best-of-7. NEXT POST- APRIL/MAY 1901 RECAP

April/May 1901
Only a few games were played in April, so I included the April games with the May games.
I also forgot to mention that I am on Commissioner Mode to prevent bias. AMERICAN LEAGUE Heading into June, the White Stockings of Chicago have a 2 game lead over the Boston Americans. The Stockings actually won their first 9 games before the Milwaukee Brewers took them down on May 4th. Only one AL team has yet to reach the 10-win mark: the Cleveland Blues, at a struggling 8-23 record. Nap Lajoie has a ridiculous .484 batting average for the A's through a full month of play, well ahead of Buck Freeman and Wilbert Robinson. He also leads in HR (4), RBI (32), OPS (1.272) and Batter WAR (2.7). There is a 4-way tie in stolen bases, between Mike Donlin of the O's, Frank Isbell of the Stockings, Bill Keister of the O's, and Ollie Pickering of the Blues; all with 13. As for pitching, Nixey Callahan of the Stockings has a 1.50 ERA, leading the AL comfortably ahead of Philly's Eddie Plank. On the other side of the spectrum, 3 pitcher are tied with 6 losses; 2 of them from the Blues. Kid Elberfeld of the Tigers is struggling on defense, tied with Bill Keister for most errors in the AL, with 24. NATIONAL LEAGUE The Senior Circuit is currently being led by the Cardinals, with a 6-game lead over the Phillies. Meanwhile, both the Giants and Reds are in rock bottom, with the Reds having only won 6 games, losing 22. Emmet Heidrick and Bobby Wallace have batting averages just over .400, with Heidrick at .402 and Wallace at .401. St. Louis dominates in every category of batting except for stolen bases, which Honus Wagner leads in with 14. Jack Harper and Cowboy Jones are having terrific seasons on the pitching side, as they both have notched 7 wins. Bill Dinneen, though, has an NL-best 1.34 ERA. Doc Newton of the Reds has 6 losses, tied with 2 other pitchers. George Magoon of Cincy also seems to be having trouble, as he has committed 20 errors, an NL-worst. Everything you need to know is in the pictures below. The notable games of April/May are coming in the next post, and then we'll recap the month of June. If there's anything not on here that you wanna know, feel free to ask about it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() NEXT POST- April/May's Memorable Games

Now for the moments that we wanna look back on. This list will also include the awards.
April 24th- Earl Moore walks 8 White Stockings, then allows 8 runs in 7th inning Coincidentally enough, this was the first AL game, and it could not have been any worse for Crossfire. June 1901
AMERICAN LEAGUE
The Boston Americans had a great month of June, winning 19 of 25 games to put them in first by 2 and a half over the White Stockings. The 3-rd place Orioles are 5 and a half back, but then everyone else is at least 12 and a half back. The Blues are still in last place. While Nap Lajoie still leads on batting average, slugging, OPS, and even OPS+ (209), Buck Freeman of the Americans is also making a name for himself, with 6 homers, 54 RBIs, and a WAR of 3.6. Nixey Callahan still has the best ERA, at 1.41, but the Americans have 2 hot pitchers in Ted Lewis and a guy named Denton True Young, who both have 11 wins. Young is striking out almost 4 batters for every walk he allows, well in the lead ahead of Clark Griffith of the Stockings, who is only striking out 1.9. Things are looking tough for Bill Bernhard of the A's, as he's the only pitcher with 10 losses in the AL. NATIONAL LEAGUE The Cardinals are still hot, but they slowed down in the month of June, only going 14-13. They still have a 5 and a half game lead over Philadelphia. The rest of the NL is pretty spread out, with the Reds in last by 3 and a half games behind 7th-place New York. Wee Willie Keeler's batting average is an NL-best .380, while Cincinnati's Sam Crawford has launched 6 balls for homers, along with Ed Delahanty and Elmer Flick. The Redbirds still have some players that lead in categories, like Emmet Heidrick leading in RBIs with 49, and Jesse Burkett having a league-best .922 OPS. Jesse Tannehill's ERA is 1.91, leading the NL. Jack Harper has 11 wins, the only pitcher with that many. Another Jack, Taylor, has 11 losses, a league-worst by 2. Tannehill is striking out 6 batters for every walk, an MLB-best. Almost all of the games he has started are quality starts. The notable moments of June is in the next post. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 1901's Memorable Moments + Awards
June 1st- Jack McCarthy brings in 8 runs
This was the Blues' 9th victory of the year, as they took down the A's 15-4. McCarthy's 3 hits were an RBI single, a 2-run single, and a bases-clearing double. The other 2 runs were from a groundout and an error. June 3rd- Weekly Awards Jimmy Williams ended Nap Lajoie's streak with an AL POTW, while Honus Wagner won another NL POTW. June 10th- Weekly Awards In a somewhat uneventful week, Buck Freeman won the AL POTW, while Rube Waddell won the NL POTW. June 11th- Willie Sudhoff walks 12 batters to set NL record Despite Sudhoff walking a ridiculous amount of batters, including Roy Thomas 4 times, Sudhoff still got the win, as his Cardinals held off a 9th inning comeback by the Phillies, 8-7 the final. June 17th- Weekly Awards Jimmy Collins won the AL POTW, and Jimmy Sheckard won the NL POTW. June 22nd- DeMontreville goes 5-5 against Bucs Even though his team lost 6-5 to the Pirates, the Beaneaters' third baseman still had a great game, with all 5 of his hits being singles. June 24th- ChiSox and Cardinals need to win now for some reason The ChiSox are in second place, and the Cardinals are in first, but for some reason both of them need to win right now. June 24th- Weekly Awards Herm McFarland of the ChiSox won the AL POTW, and Hughie Jennings won the NL POTW. June 24th- Frank Kitson throws 3-hit shutout with 8 K The Superbas ace dismantles the Orphans, making them look silly with 8 strikeouts and no walks allowed. What's better is... he threw a Maddux, with just 98 pitches. July 1st- Weekly Awards Buck Freeman won the AL POTW, and Doc Newton won the NL POTW. JUNE'S PLAYERS OF THE MONTH Batters- AL: Buck Freeman, 1B for BOS; NL: Jesse Burkett, LF for STL Pitchers- AL: Cy Young, BOS; NL: Brickyard Kennedy, BRO Rookies- AL: George Winter, P for BOS; NL: Doc White, P for PHI NEXT POST- July Recap

July 1901
AMERICAN LEAGUE
The Orioles lead the AL by a game and a half. The White Stockings are still in the mix, 3 games back. Everyone else is way back. Nap Lajoie still has the best AL batting average, at .430 (the only .400+ batting average). He also leads with 9 home runs, but Buck Freeman leads in RBIs with 75, 8 ahead of 2nd place. Lajoie's war, slugging percentage, and OPS also lead the AL. While Nixey Callahan still has the only under-2 ERA in the AL, at 1.81, Cy Young leads in wins with 15, and the Brewers' Ned Garvin leads in the last Triple Crown category: strikeouts, with 69. Case Patten of the Senators has the most losses, with 15. Young has almost 3 strikeouts per walk, which also leads the AL. NATIONAL LEAGUE The Cardinals still have a big lead in the NL, by 8 and a half. The Phillies and Pirates, at this point, are only battling for 2nd. Jesse Burkett has a .375 AVG, a .452 OBP, and a .502 SLG, dominating the other 7 teams. Sam Crawford is also in uncharted territory, having hit 16 home runs. Emmet Heidrick has 78 RBIs. Jesse Tannehill has the best ERA in the National, at 1.88. Jack Powell of the Cardinals has collected 16 wins, and Tom Hughes has 152 strikeouts, way more than the AL leader. Tannehill has 7.5 K/BB, 4 more than second place Jack Powell. Moments + Awards is soon to come. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 1901
AMERICAN LEAGUE
The Orioles still have a 3-game lead ahead of the Americans and White Stockings (I'm calling them the White Stockings because this was their official name until 1904). Baltimore had the best month of August, going 19-12 and racking up 3 saves (which were not officially counted until 1969). Nap Lajoie is still being Nap Lajoie, leading in batting average, slugging, OPS, and hits, but Buck Freeman is trailing in batting average and leading in homers and RBI. An interesting thing to note is that Freeman had the best batting average among all qualified AL hitters in August, hitting .380, while Nap hit just .357. Nixey still leads in ERA (1.83), Cy still leads in wins (20), and Ned still leads in strikeouts (90). Case Patten is the only pitcher in the AL to have 20 or more losses, sitting at 21. Cy is striking out 3 batters for every walk he allows, still leading the AL. NATIONAL LEAGUE Although the Cardinals are still ahead in the NL standings, they're just 5 games ahead now, as the Pirates won 18 of 22 in the month of August, while St. Louis only won 16 of 27. The Phillies, though, won 21 of 29, having the best month in all of MLB. As for the New York Giants, a pennant is easily out of the equation, following a 5-23 month. Sam Crawford is making a name of himself, leading the NL in homers, slugging, and OPS. Jesse Burkett leads in batting average and OBP, and his teammate Emmet Heidrick leads in RBI. One thing I haven't talked about much is stolen bases, which is being led by Topsy Hartsel, with his teammate Frank Chance right behind him. Jesse Tannehill still has the best ERA (1.72), Jack Powell still has the most wins (20, only NL pitcher), and Tom Hughes still has the most strikeouts (194). Tannehill is striking people out at a better K/BB rate than most. He has only allowed 16 walks, striking out almost 8 people per walk. In fact, in his last 4 appearances of August, all for 8+ innings, he only allowed a single walk, and struck out 17 in that span. That's good for 1901. The best of August to follow. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September/October 1901
The only games in October were played by the National League, and it ended on October 6, so I will include October with the September stats.
AMERICAN LEAGUE The Orioles were unable to continue winning, giving way to both the Stockings and the Americans. On September 26th, with a Chicago win over the Americans, they ended up clinching the American League pennant. Baltimore finished 7 games back, and everyone else was at least 15 games back. Nap Lajoie continued his great hitting, ending the season with a .409 batting average. He and Buck Freeman had the only OPS north of 1 (1.062 for Nap, 1.016 for Buck). Nap also had a WAR of 7.4, which was only behind the 9.1 of Jimmy Collins. Buck Freeman tied with Nap on HRs (14) and beat him by 12 on RBIs (125; Nap had 113 and was tied for 3rd). Ollie Pickering of the Blues stole the most bags, 52. Nixey Callahan had the best ERA in the league, at 1.93. Cy Young finished with 25 wins, and Case Patten, who also had the most losses in the AL (25), struck out the most batters (119). Cy Young struck out 3.4 batters per walk, well ahead of the rest of the AL. Bill Keister of the Orioles had the most errors among all AL players, the only one with 100 or more. He committed 103 errors. NATIONAL LEAGUE St. Louis will also not see a pennant winner, as the Cards struggled in September. Despite a 7-game season-ending winning streak, it wasn't enough to save the season. This paved the way for the Phillies and Pirates to fight for the NL pennant. In the end, however, it was won by the Phillies, who clinched on October 2nd over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jesse Burkett was the batting champion of the NL, hitting .354. Sam Crawford hit an outstanding 25 homers. Emmet Heidrick drove in 114. All of them led the NL. Honus Wagner stole 49 bags. And Roy Thomas was the only player in either league to draw 100 or more walks, drawing 102. Pitching in the NL was dominated by Jesse Tannehill, who had the best ERA at 1.8, ahead of his teammate Sam Leever (who also had a 1.88 ERA). Deacon Phillippe had 25 wins, and Tom Hughes struck out 237, a lot more than the AL leader. Tannehill struck out 7.2 per walk, well ahead of the rest. Patsy Donovan was the best fielder in the NL, with a .996 fielding percentage. Barry McCormick and Honus Wagner committed the most errors. I will show the AL standings and stats first, then the NL, then the Memorable Moments of September/October.

Offseason Report- November and December 1901
November 1st- TRADE
St. Louis Cardinals receive- P Win Kellum, 3B Solly Hofman Boston Americans receive- 1B Dan McGann MY THOUGHTS- McGann is a very solid player, and was effective in the Cardinals lineup in 1901, so sending him to the AL is not the best of moves. Kellum didn't pitch much in '01, only pitching in 13 innings, while Hofman only had 26 at-bats, hitting .154. November 4th- TRADE St. Louis Browns (former Milwaukee Brewers) receive- C Joe Sugden Chicago White Stockings receive- SS Hugh Duffy, 3B Tom Downey MY THOUGHTS- Another interesting trade. The Browns give up a .300 hitter just to get a catcher who only played in 40 games and was one of the better hitters on the 1899 Cleveland Spiders. The Browns also sent away a rookie third baseman who hasn't played a big league game yet. November 15th- TRADE Philadelphia Phillies receive- P Frank Kitson Brooklyn Superbas receive- C Red Dooin, P Fred Burchell, P Harry Hess MY THOUGHTS- What a trade! For 3 mediocre rookies who haven't seen big league action yet, the Phils get a 20-game winner! December 18th- TRADE Brooklyn Superbas receive- P Bill Duggleby, P Beany Jacobson Philadelphia Phillies receive- 2B Tom Daly MY THOUGHTS- Trading a 20-win pitcher for an effective .300 hitter is a pretty good move. The Phils already acquired a 20-game winner earlier on in the offseason, so this will make up for it.
