Game crashing and claiming lack of memory

Been playing the game for like a decade, and never had this issue before.


Game crashes on a regular basis, and tells me a warning as its auto saving that my system is out of memory.


I have a nearly brand new computer, that is definitely not out of memory. I'm only in year 3 of the save, so it doesn't seem like this has to do with an overly large or long save.


Does anyone know why this is happening, and what I can do to fix it?

This happened to my game once. I don't think the issue is to do with your save but I think I had OOTP open for a long time and the longer you have an application open, the more memory it uses.


If you have the same session of OOTP open for long periods of time, that could be the cause of the memory error.

EDIT: what are your system specs? (RAM, OS, CPU/GPU, etc.)

Yeah, it's always a good idea to close the game if you're not going to be using it for a long period of time. Just keeping it open in the background does run the risk that you can run short on memory, depending on what other games/apps you have running at the same time and how long they're open for.

Thanks for the advice guys. I do leave it open quite frequently, so I'll adjust that, but this wasn't especially been an issue before. Kinda throwing me, esp since I used to play it on a much worse computer.
