Old player benched despite being healthy/productive/higher rated

Sometimes I like to start in 2008 and unretire Barry Bonds to see what may have happened had he been signed that off season after putting up a 169 OPS+ in his age 42 season.

In my sim he was mashing as the Twins DH for the first part of the season, then he was inexplicably out of the lineup most days of the last 2+ months of the season. I checked and he was healthy and pinch hitting at times, but never starting. His team was in contention.

He then signed with the Giants for 3 years, $60 million in the off-season, so I instituted universal DH but he was still sat by the AI most of the year, despite still having well above average hitting ratings.

I'm guessing this may have been because he was so so old, that the AI decided playing younger players was more valuable overall? But the Twins season is particularly egregious.

Was scouting off so his ratings could be seen at 100% accuracy? It's possible the game aged him hard mid-season. If you redo it as a test, have scouting off and get reports monthly to track the during the year development (I assume development was on).

Scouting was off, he had high ratings all year. He even signed a big contract the following off season and was still benched. His ratings were lower in the second year but still well above average.
