Hi folks, has anyone successfully created a promotion/relegation leauge. I've created two 20 league teams but not sure how to structure it? Thanks

You have to create a first league that will be your top league (Major League). After that league is created, you go to create a new league, select "Add Promotion/Relegation League". In the next window, select the dropdown for type of league to "Relegation League for XXX (name of your Major League). DO NOT at any point click the Cancel button, as it cancels EVERYTHING you have worked on, and doesn't only Cancel the current league creation you are in.

That's pretty much it. The manual gives you a bit of info as well, but it's on the light side.

You can add more leagues to your universe, but only 2 leagues can be set in a Pro/Rel relationship. The worst team of your top league will get relegated while the champion of your bottom league will get promoted.

I've run into a minor issue, the finances don't seem to change for teams that go up or go down. So the promoted teams really struggle to survive while the relegated teams easily go up.
While that isn't too uncommon in the football world, there hasn't been a lot of exceptions to the rule. I've been hand editing the new finances for the clubs in commissioner mode but it does seem like if your team is promoted you would get a little financial boost.

Also, unlike Football Manager editor, there isn't really prize money in this game so you can't provide a financial boost to the promoted clubs. At least I've never seen prize money in FHM. Maybe I've missed it?
I haven't won my second division league yet, so I can't say how promotion works as a manager.

I also think I'm running too small of a world, so there aren't really a lot of players to rush out and trade for when your teams get promoted, while the longer contracts that are normal to hockey really prevent players from jumping ship when the team gets relegated. I don't have the game open in front of my right now but I can't remember, there might be a contract clause that allows a player to opt out if the team is relegated. If there isn't that would help.

That's all to say I'm really enjoying the dynamics of promotion and relegation so far. It makes my little hockey universe feel more dynamic and engaging. In a country like the US where there are really too many markets that can support a professional sports team it really democratizes things and allows for some change and new blood in the ranks.

You are sadly correct about financials. I wonder (haven't had a chance to mess with that yet) if this could be fixed by having the relegation league as a 1.0 reputation league as well (if it's even possible to do).

I'm not gonna lie...I love the addition of PRO/REL in this iteration...it just needs to let us tinker with some of the settings for it. It's nice to have the foundation for it still, and there is definitely some appeal for me to create a universe where the Whalers and Jets never move (sorry, seems you may be a Canes fan haha) with a lower league trying to make it to the NHL...but I also like to feel like I'm in control of some things, and right now there just isn't enough customization for PRO/REL structure.

I think it will improve as everyone plays it more. The FHM community certainly knows how to express their desires and ideas LOL.

When I set a pro/reg system up in OOTP I have both leagues with a 1.0 rating and I have them share a minor league system. Something like 32 teams between two levels (maybe 40 sometimes) and then I just have a minor league that plays a lot of regional games in division and only comes together for the playoffs. This is the best system I've created so far. Anything bigger or with multiple levels seems to come with some unintended consequences.

Credit to FHM and OOTP though, when I build leagues in Football Manager-- the editor is an absolute nightmare. I'm good at it and have been using it for decades and I still struggle with some of the advanced editing features. I don't even like or watch baseball, but OOTP is just a joy to mess around with. FHM is getting there but I'm a huge hockey fan so I give them some leeway

some very good takes in your previous posts

it´s so cool to have this kind of 'easy to customize' options in the game.
Promotion and Relegation system was a great step but it needs more details fleshed out.

Most of them would help also in standard games in leagues with promotion/relegation

1) there should be a relegation clause option in contracts to avoid top players get stuck in lower league teams for many years

2) relegated teams should have happiness problems with players that came down

3) adjustment of finances for relegated teams should be more dynamic
teams from bigger markets should go all in to get promoted in year one or two - but after then they tend to get more down to the level of the rest of leagues teams.
Promoted teams from big markets should be more agressive in case of budgets.

4) option to get a new farm team if your team got relegated to league level of your current farm team (could lead to strange setup in standard games if your farm team got promoted and you got relegated)

Be aware that league ratings, that are to close together or equal, will lead to strange player signings because there is no team reputation or something like this. Could happen that good players from top level league sign with teams in lower level league in Free Agency.

I would add ability to enter different league values for different conferences/division to that if we cannot have club reputation

Hello - So I created a top league (1.00) with a couple conferences and divisions then I created another lower league (.090) with the same set up and then another league. I started the game and I see all my leagues but how do I set up how many teams are promoted or relegated? Also my top league has no schedule.. no games period while I see a game schedule in my other two leagues. Any idea what I did wrong?

I do love the import feature so you can bring in real teams!

Thanks!!
