Negotiations Still Not Working Well-Please Fix
1989 Sim salary negotiations, all up to date OOTP24 updates:
Super Star Quality Player requests $3.9 one year deal (last year of arbitration). My League file Super Star settings are set at $2.5 million (avg) This seems ridiculous, and if I try to negotiate, the player ends up, "sorry no more negotiations now". But if I try to go long term max 4 years in my league (era) then the request goes to almost $5.0 million per year!!! The top players in 1989 Cal Ripken made just under $2.5 million. So, can we fix this? Seems that there would be a max on the league setting of like 10% above or below(?) or.....I got something else messed up somewhere

The MLBPA is very pleased with this. ;p Especially coming out of the collusion era of baseball salaries (if we are citing real world salary comps).
How's his personality with regard to money? How happy is he in your organization? He has no idea who '89 Cal is, what are the top salaries for recent FA signees? Also, he's asking for more than you can sign him for, I reckon. Anchoring his negotiating position higher than the number he'd commit to. The $3.9m gets him to FA year and just takes an arb year out. If you want to take out FA years, you'll pay more - because he's more than happy to test his value in the market. Anyway, that's my sense looking at it.

Yes, there is a lot to unpack here, but the theme of my point was to address the complete over payment of the contract based on the league settings and the budgets of the teams. If the settings for Super-Star are an average of $2.5m then, yes it can be more but not double. It is 1989 and the team payrolls were averaging in the mid $15m range and for a player to ask for almost $5m makes no sense. Keeping it real, I don't think Cal Ripken asked for $5m and got $2.5m. I looked and I counted 20 players who made $2.0m and Cal made the most. I think the AI engine has some factors that should be maximized for the era. Maybe I am asking too much in a fictional sim.
