Ruth gets downgraded??
So Ruth is the top rated player in the league. Was commanding top salary. Last season had a breakthrough season, clearly the best in league history. Does the new contract make any sense...??

Maybe his pitching is the issue that's put the drag on his salary.

The one flaw with the game's more focused review of how the game looks at two-way players (because of Ohtani) is that it doesn't get Shohei's market value correct. My first guess looking at this is that for the time period where Ruth is transitioning, he is also getting caught in whatever the Ohtani issue is with regard to properly valuing him on the open market.

The game is treating him as the pitcher, not the entire player, for contract negotiations. Issue since launch.

Exactly. Ruth pitched a few innings over 1920-21. The game is therefore valuing Ruth at more or less half value since now he 'only' bats/fields. He leads the leagues in offensive categories, but is no longer in the top 20 league salaries. Yes, OOTP head office is renegotiating Ruth's contract because none of the teams were. Even Ruth himself apparently felt he was deserving of a 60% pay cut because he was no longer the player he was.

$1,068,469
Adjusted for inflation, $36,000 in 1914 is equal to $1,068,469 in 2023. |
