1899 season

I tried firing up the 1899 season to play as the Cleveland Spiders.

However, in OOTP that season has 16 teams, where as the real season had only 12 teams.

Also when I start that season, nobody is on a team.

Am I doing something wrong ?

So I'm curious to the answer on this, I went to start a 1899 season, and the Columbus Solons, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Reds & St Louis Browns all show as available to play.
All 4 seem to be from the American Association which ended play in 1891. The Brewers, Reds and Solons lineage ended there. The Browns went to the NL and turned into the Perfectos in 1899.
Also the 1899 season was played with a 12 team league no divisions, and the game puts it into 2, 8 team divisions.

All seasons prior to 1901 are not historically accurate. If you loaded up a game in 1871 it would have two sub leagues which is not accurate. You did nothing wrong. If you wanted to have the game do things accurately you would have to start as a fictional league and manually make the changes yourself. It is entirely possible as I have done it a number of times.

The alternatives to this are to start a historical game in 1899 and then either a) manually change teams' names, delete teams, etc., or b) modify the teams.csv file so it has accurate teams for 1899 (and 1900, if you plan to move forward). Note that with option b, however, you'd have to start your game in a season prior to 1899. This is because OOTP does not read the teams.csv file at game creation; it only reads it for subsequent seasons.

In either case, you'd need to manually move players to their historically correct teams (if that is something you want).

The problem is that if you started a historical game in 1899 the league structure is wrong. The game will always start with a two sub league system that was not present till 1901.
