Confusing AI DFA Tactics
At the start of the offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays had to reinstate 2 players off the 60 day IL and needed 2 roster spots to accommodate this. However, they chose 2 young players who both seemed promising and were just recently called up. It seems odd to me that there aren't two other, older players that they couldn't DFA, and I wanted to see if I was the crazy one or if this was maybe an oversight on the part of the the computer.

Without seeing the complete roster, including the returning players, it's hard to comment.
Both players had a negative WAR at AAA. Not a large sample size but along with ratings it's what we've got. The SS isn't too impressive in my eyes. Doesn't run the bases well, fielding is meh for middle IF, not a great arm if playing SS or 3b. For me I'd say he's a utility guy, at best, who I would avoid actually playing at SS unless I had to. I'd think I could easily pull a guy out of FA that wouldn't cost much more and would do a lot more for the team. The RP, while projected role is SP, doesn't have the stamina to be successful. Good/decent middle relief IMHO and, maybe a spot starter in an emergency. Not much more unless he gets a good roll on the development dice and increased his stamina. I'd like to keep him and hope, but if he was picked up off of waivers by another club I don't think he'd be hard to replace. Just my 2 cents. |
