Historical Pitcher Import Ratings Seem Wonky
I just fired up a 1995 season in both OOTP 24 and OOTP 23. Historical minors, 5 year recalc ratings with current season box checked for double weight of current stats. Player import ratings are identical. Something seems really off. I have 4 dominant pitchers of the era submitted to be looked at: Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Hideo Nomo, and Pedro Martinez. The ratings in the OOTP 24 game make each seem rather pedestrian. The OOTP 23 ratings seem to have them rated more toward what they would be over a 5 year time frame. I think this might be something worth having someone look more into. Pictures to follow.

Let's start by looking at how our heroes are rated in OOTP 24. When you bring up their stats in Baseball Reference, you will see these seem very low and not quite accurate (going clockwise from upper left: Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez, Hideo Nomo).

Our same heroes in OOTP 23. These ratings seem much more appropriate for the era (going clockwise from upper left: Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez, Hideo Nomo).

I feel that this things have gotten a lot better with the latest patch. The only thing I notice is there are outliers at the lower levels of the minor leagues that are sometimes dominant still. Like, in a 1992 league, who is Kevin Garner and why is he the top pitcher in baseball with 5 year recalc ratings?

Hi Lucas, I'm also doing a sim in the 90s (1993 to be exact), and am running into a similar issue as the one OP sent 2 weeks ago. On start, the best pitcher in baseball is Kevin Garner according to OSA, Scouting, and the Preseason Predictions. After a quick search, not only did Garner never crack the MLB, he's not even a pitcher. There are other pitchers that stand out as well. For example, 18 year-old Will Cunnane is the Marlins ace at game start at 3/3.5, one of many 18-21 year old pitchers that will randomly be either solid rotation guys or elite bullpen arms, despite being at least 5 years away from their MLB debuts, if they even made it to the show in the first place
Typically these players have the correct potential ratings, but their current ratings are stupidly high, typically their movement rating Last edited by ItsJaco; 07-11-2023 at 09:02 PM. |

The Historical ID has an error in it. He should have none.
He was a pitcher in 1987. The game is leveraging that and filling in the blanks and developing him after the pitching stats ran out. Surprised he has enough stamina to be a starter from that though.
