Why can you start 8 players???? Bug?

Up against a team that is only starting 8, and it seems to jump to the next player in the game log, there's no automatic out or anything? Is this a bug? It just looks odd and seems to give his better players one more at bat. Anyone else see this?

He did not start a player in the 8 hole. Maybe it has been fixed now playing a different team. Not the first time have seen this.
