Surplus Value-based Trade Calculator for OOTP
Hi all,
I posted this on reddit a few days ago, but since everyone doesn't sojourn to that area of the internet, I'm reposting here as well I made a surplus value based trade calculator for OOTP you can use for unleashing your inner Jerry Dipoto. It's a frankenstein of WARcels (for MLB future WAR calculation), Fangraphs prospect valuation, and surplus value as a whole. Methodology links in the sheet. Not meant to be a golden hammer, but should give you a sniff test of controlled war and surplus value you would get from trades. Includes options for cash, salary retention, and should work with 20-80 ratings or stats only/mostly. Has anyone ever come up with a draft trade value chart? Like the NFL uses?

Great idea! I'm about 90% there with the above gsheet. I can prob put something together for it once I look at where picks usually "land" on fangraphs big board in terms of future value and try to incorporate it into the calculator.

Made some updates/enhancements to the first tab based on feedback. Should make it easier to wrap your arms around how to use this thing.
It will also now show a sniff test of the trade in the analyzer ![]() |

I really like this tool but I am having an issue. When I download the sheet, for some reason all of the empty MLB slots appear to add value to the trade. Also, the Value calculation seems to have an error. Attached is the initial screen I get after downloading the spreadsheet.

I've had some fun playing around with this. Haven't used it enough to get a feel for accuracy or anything, but it is definitely a cool tool. Thanks for putting in the work!
Question: On the first sheet it shows you can alter the cash/war value, but I don't see that anywhere on the second sheet...? Last edited by Galeg; 07-29-2021 at 09:00 AM. |

This tool seems pretty cool, any thoughts to having it calculate without the potential and overall ratings where you go off contact/stu type ratings instead?

But you could fork the spreadsheet and try doing this on your own and share it back with folks, always fun to see how people tweak tools to accommodate how they play. |
