IAFA Discovery Frequency
I'm a big fan of the new IAFA signing format, but I can't help but feel like it's a lot harder to rebuild without the frequent IAFA discoveries as well. The max per year now is set at 16, and that both feels way too low (when you can realistically only sign 2-3 IAFA tops, if you prioritize quality over quantity) and detracts from a significant part of the game that was the crapshoot of finding these diamonds in the rough and developing them.
With really just the draft as the lone other non-external (i.e. trading) way to add prospects, it feels unnecessarily difficult to me to take a bad farm to being good. I had hoped the IAFA format would be in addition to the previous IAFA discovery structure, not in lieu of, and I don't love that there isn't an option to increase discoveries beyond 16 per year. Does anyone else feel similarly? |

That's what I'm saying, though. The max number of discoveries you can make in a year now is 16. It used to be 288 (which, now, is instead how large the IAFA signing class can be).

The default setting is now 8 which is ridiculously low. It took me 2 seasons to realize that and up it to 16 just to try and keep my DSL team with players under 20. 16 seems to be enough for me along with 20 drafted players and 1-3 international signings. That's close to 40 each year.

I usually cut 20/0.5 star POTs in my system upon taking on a new team, and only having 16 IAFA discoveries per year makes that nearly impossible. I know that's very much a "me" problem, but I still find it strange that OOTP wouldn't at least let you customize the game to that extent, even if it wasn't the default (which, I agree, is way too low at 8). |

Oh got it. I didn't know the max was that low. I take it you are not a a fan of ghost players? I'm noticing even if you have the right settings the AI doesn't really take into account ghost players and will still try and fill in a minor league roster even with younger players it shouldn't be moving. 18 year olds do not belong in AA. I had to set an age minimum to keep that from happening.

Why not just turn the max number of IAFA to 288? If you do this, wouldn’t there be an abundance of free agents you could sign after the international signing day/period?

There isn't really an end to the signing period under the new format. Guys linger until they sign and the few stragglers remaining get replaced in October when the new class is revealed. I already have it set to 288 but that's my gripe, you can't sign more than 2-3 guys without sacrificing serious quality, and now there isn't really a way to acquire the same number of IAFA that you once could.
