Unrealistic Trade Problems
I'm not sure if this should go here, because I wouldn't call it a "bug" but it seems to be a problem sometimes in playing the game. Especially acting as a GM, and the realistic aspect of the game, which is super important.
First of all, I have trades set to pretty difficult. I.e. 7-8/10, if 10 was the most difficult and 1 was the least. Otherwise, everything is pretty much default. The problem is, even with these settings, I'll quite often see a team with what they call an "overpaid veteran" who is certainly not, and they're willing to give him up for anyone. Below is a great example screenshot. This guy John Leroy is a 2-time Cy Young winner, made the all star game many times including last year, and is only 31 years old, having a good season (3.18 ERA in 17 games), and has very good ratings according to my scout which has "very high" accuracy on him. His salary is on the high end, but it only has 2 guaranteed years left. So, all in all, the guy is pretty dang valuable. When I offer up "anyone" for him, which the opposing organization is willing to do (which is obviously very unrealistic), even my assistant GM says "I wouldn't do this deal, the other side offers an overpaid veteran." So they're just willing to give him up...and other organizations assumingly are not even willing to take him! I do see this quite often...where some veterans are just all of a sudden considered not valuable at all, to the point of very unrealistic. Again, I have trade settings on default except for making them more challenging. EDIT: I also have Todd Helton who has incredible ratings, stats, and accolades...and when I shop him around just out of curiosity, NO ONE offers anything for a trade. The guy is a superstar but he's 32 years old currently. Not even on one of the highest salaries in the game. Seems like a bit of a glitch when these things happen. Perhaps this one is due to having the trades on higher difficulty? But that seems to be the only option to avoid other "too easy" trades from happening. And this obviously wouldn't explain the "too easy" trade above with John Leroy being considered an overpaid veteran. Last edited by Trav876; 02-17-2023 at 08:58 AM. |

My assumption here is he is a RP making almost $9M per season.
His ratings suggest he’s not overpowering from a K/9 perspective, nor elite in BB/9 prevention. His HR/9 movement rate looks really good. Another factor could be cash availability for other teams. Can other teams afford to pay a setup type $9m? I’d assume the cpu AI isn’t crazy about paying high salaries for bullpen dudes. I could be wrong. Curious for others to chime in. |

His stamina has plummeted to 35. That's why he is no longer worth that type of money. If he had a 55 stamina, he would be worth it.

Yeah, given the salary, era and pedigree, Leroy looks like a former starter whose stamina has deteriorated to the point of being a reliever, which would be why he's seen as a grossly overpaid veteran.

Does Helton have a no trade clause or is he a 10/5 man. In either case you will get no offers.

It is my impression that there is some randomness involved in the interest AI GMs have in a player. If there was no randomness and trading was set to hard, it seems there would never be a trade a human could accept.

This happens a lot with relievers making big money : teams will try to give them up even if they are still somewhat useful even though they aren't completly strapped for cash.
And I get it : this guy is an above-average rhp bullpen arm with a bland pitch mix and decent velo. He has expectations to start and the absolute bare minimum stamnia for a starter. You can probably find guys younger with options who will give you 90% of the production at 10% of the cost. A useful arm, but yeah, he's overpaid and yeah I would try to get out of that contract if I was the Braves, especially if he was blocking someone. |
