Total Pro Service Years

Does anybody know unequivocally what, if any, effect these have on a player? I do a lot of manual importation and many of the players are imported with these in place, often set to a ridiculous amount like 25 years for a 22-yo player. So I go and manually reset each to zero - quite the task and I'm questioning whether it's worth the effort.

My understanding would be that this figure affects things like auto-extension and arb estimates and then FA expectations. But am only speculating. Interested to hear if anyone knows for sure or has some insight into the concept.

Thanks

G

Just to clarify, is this about "Major League Service Time", or "Time as a Professional"?

Time as a professional won't (or I guess shouldn't) impact anything to do with contracts, arbitration, FA demands, etc. What it *will* impact is R5 eligibility.

Time as a professional tracks time since the player was first drafted/signed, not since they made it to the majors. For example, in one online league I have a player with 11 years as a pro and 0 Service Time because he's a 27-year old who played Rookie League as a 17-year old and has never been on the Secondary Roster.

Ah yes, of course. OK, thanks so much for the feedback.

For players in the International Complex 'Time as a Professional' starts the day they turm 18. If you promote a player from the complex before they turn 18 'Time as a Professional' starts on the day of promotion.
