Paul Goldschmidt is en FUEGO

MLB high 15 game hitting streak, hitting .413 during May, with 23 RBI in 20 games.

A scary 61 total bases in 20 games, with a 1.236 OPS.

Tonight he struggled...3 k's and a DP, but he made up for it to hit a walk off grand slam.

Good times, good times...and the very best part is that he's just a humble guy.

Nice to see a St. Louis athlete show some competence after that embarrassing display from the Blues tonight.

I was unfortunately waiting for the inevitable off game once everyone started noticing that he's been absolutely raking it lately.

So happy to see him come up clutch tonight.

Let's add 22 RBI in the last 12 games.

This has never been done before, according to the Card's announcers.

Goldy is having a pretty good day.

Cards double header, and it's in the second inning of the second game.

So far, a single, three homers, and 8 RBI.

Oh..and 19 total bases in his last 11 at bats.

Edit to add...two more singles and a walk.

He's been on fire lately and it's been awesome. It reminds me of when Pujols was in his prime where everytime he comes up I expect him to get on base or hit a homerun.

Don't players usually break a leg about three days after reaching EN FUEGO level?

Or maybe that's just Metsies, I don't know.

45 RBI in his last 38 games. Not bad.

Four more hits yesterday.

Is this the NL MVP for this year?

Isn't he on the verge of hitting 300 HRs, hitting in 1000 RBIs, and scoring 1000 runs? Pretty big year if (really a matter a when) he accomplishes all three.

Way too early to talk about his accumulating numbers..he needs five more years. His RATE stats are excellent, including a lifetime .918 OPS.

They were talking on the Cardinals postgame show the other night about Goldschmidt's monster past two months.
And he has been spectacular to watch, why anyone would pitch to him with someone on base, even with Arenado on deck, is beyond me.
Anyway
One of the commentators said, "We have not seen anything like this around here since Pujols was in his prime."
The other responded, "Except that hot streak lasted for 10 years."

Pujols, in 12 years as a Cardinal, had an OPS of 1.030, and tailed WAY off to .906 his last year there.

I haven't done the math, but his first ten years, his OPS was likely about 1.060. The announcer was quite correct.

For the record, the HIGHEST two years of OPS Pujols had after he left were .859, and .790. I was SO happy the Cards didn't resign him.

He may certainly get even hotter since he's not vaccinated against a certain potential cause of a fever!

Arenado is fourth in the league in WAR, and his OPS in July is 1.160. Can I help you in any other way???

Historically, Goldy starts slow, and heats up hugely as the season goes on. Yikes!

A walk, two singles, and a three run bomb.

Now hitting .342, with a .425 OBP, slugging about .645, with an OPS of 1.070.

Leading the majors in hitting, 3rd in runs, 2nd in hits, 3rd in RBI, first in all three slash lines, except slugging, where he is very close to Judge.

3 homers behind Schwarber, 2 RBI behind Alonso, and 23 points in the lead in average..so a LEGIT chance at a triple crown.
