Using 'starts when' effectively so AI will execute
Does anyone know if you have intentionally different settings under the 'starts when' (for backups) on your depth chart between left handed and right handed lineups if the AI will count 'Ev. # of games' JUST for that handedness OR does it count ALL the games against the chosen selection?
Specifically what I am trying to accomplish is for my batters with pronounced splits for them to rest against their weaker side. To (try) to do this I have set their 'starts when' for their backup on their stronger side to 'never' - and then for their weaker side I have set to rest 'when starter tired.' What I want it to do is that when a player starts to fatigue that it will rest the player when they are facing their weaker handedness pitcher. Does anyone know if OOTP (in perfect team online sim) will execute it this way with the settings as described? Note- I have went in to my global settings and set fatigue level for benching. Appreciate any thoughts or experience anyone has. |

I use "if starter tired" everywhere and global settings to 96%. This will accomplish your objective most of the time. The only way to improve is to personally micromanage every sim, or fine tune your 7 day lineups. "start every x days" checks, but does not consider handedness of past games, only whether the player started or not.

I struggle with this too. I use the "start every x days" feature, but I haven't gone back through the box scores to see how the AI actually implements it. Here and there I use the pinch hit platoon settings, but I don't know exactly how the AI uses that either. I'd really like to see OOTP do some live Q&A video sessions on specific things like this. How the bench is used is huge, especially in tournament play.
