Question about coaches in historical simulation

I am replaying the 1973 season with the St. Louis Cardinals.
I noticed that the assembled coaching staff is made up of fictional players.
Is there any way, I can assign the actual pitching coach -- Barney Schultz -- into that position.
As well, as the other roles.
I can find those individuals in the database, but the option to make them a coach is not available.
Also, since I am GM and manager, which means Red Schoendienst is out of a job, is there any way I can hire him as my bench coach.
I made him an offer, which he refused. Is there a way to get him to entertain the offer?

You can always jump to Commissioner Mode and turn those players into coaches and force Red into the Bench Coach position. Then turn off Commish mode.

It seems I started this sim in Challenge Mode.
Heck, I don't even know what Challenge Mode is and I have been playing OOTP for at least a decade.
Anyway, it seems that you can't edit players -- turn retired players into coaches -- among other things in Challenge Mode.
Also, there is no way to turn off Challenge Mode.
So, I either move forward as is or start back from square one.
Since, I am only 20-some games in, I am leaning toward the latter, as there are a few other things I like to do with my teams which is being limited to being in Challenge Mode.

Start over without challenge mode. Any restrictions of challenge mode that you like you can adopt voluntarily. All you lose is bragging rights among other challenge modees.
