In my online league my team is doing horrible and the trade deadline approaches. My question is this-Should I dump all of my high priced veterans and start fresh? I only have a couple of good players right now but I have some good prospects and could get more if I traded the few good veteran players I have. Or do I still need a few veterans to help the younger players mature? Thanks

you don't need the veterans to help the youngsters mature, but I'm in the "don't be too hasty to rebuild" camp. a couple key free agent signings and things can turn around pretty quickly

I, on the other hand, like to be ready to rebuild. A lot of teams will overpay in prospects for players who only have 1-2 good years left. I love trading my 34-year-old stars for 2-3 really good prospects, then watching the next season as my young guys have a solid year while the old star just fades.

It depends, like DD said, what kind of free agent class your league is going to have. If you can easily retool in the offseason, then I would keep the veterans. But if you don't want to sign any free agents, then I would trade the veterans for prospects and get a high draft pick. Personally, I enjoy rebuilding a team very much, but some people find it to be a chore.

I agree with Eck... fire sale time if what you say is true. You only have a couple good stars left.

Is there a way to trade for a higher draft pick???
I have not been able to find that option when trading, but it would be great if you could |

No, unless you count trading all your good players and getting a worse record.

Rebuild but hang onto Lavan.

Anybody have any thoughts about how fan interest and loyalty (and therefore revenue) may be affected if Kat trades all her established stars? I personally haven't run into the scenario, but I've read that you could take a hit there.

Hey Katrina,
It probably depends on what "you" enjoy more. Either idea could work. I have done both.... then again, we're in the same league - so why would you listen to me ? LOL ![]() Henry |

I'd see what I could get, but I'd only pull the trigger if I got an offer I absolutely couldn't refuse.

I'm one who likes the challenge of rebuilding.
Tear it down, start over with youth. |

Katrina - if one of your good players were a shortstop that could ACTUALLY HIT OVER .180 I'd be interested...
sorry, I had to vent...seriously, look over Pepperland and let me know if there is anything you feel would help both sides. Steve

I just took a look at your team online. You're 16 games out, which is not insurmountable, so I wouldn't give everything up just like that. There are two teams below you in your division. Your team looks like it could be a contender if you added a couple of stars in the right spots. You could use a good SP and a SS. Guzman just isn't cutting it at short. He doesn't have the defensive ability to make up for his offensive shortcomings. Same with Mendoza, the CF. He's a C in range and is really not very good offensively. If you could make big improvements at those two positions and solidify your staff a bit, I think you'd find yourself in contention.
