Question about feeder leagues

I was thinking about adding a high school feeder league to introduce some younger players. Does this help or just complicate matters?

I used them for years as the "best" way to fill the draft. I stopped a couple of versions ago when OOTP redid their created draft classes. Previously OOTP draft classes only had ratings which wasn't enough for me. When realistic stats were added the OOTP generated classes, IMHO, became as good, if not better, than the feeder classes I was getting. An additional benefit is your game\save file become quite a bit smaller as you're not supporting another entire league.

While they worked well, for me, the big drawback was not seeing players that dominated HS baseball, statistically, like a Joe Mauer. You might have guys with ratings that showed them to be "the studs" but not the stats. The OOTP created draft classes give you guys that do statistically dominate. Much better, IMHO, and I would not go back to feeders.

If you do decide to use them I would suggest searching and reading threads on getting things "right". My biggest issue when starting was getting the four classes a good mix of age and positions. IIRC I went in with the editor and redistributed the players between the classes. Once I had that done I had no more issues. Other users in threads you may find may have had a different experience.

Just one guy's opinion. I'd say if the idea is appealing to you to look around for other opinions before making a decision. Don't just base it on my post.

The big thing about feeder leagues is to make sure you have enough teams to adequately fill the draft. There's a certain number, per level of minors, that is recommended, and it can be found in the manual.
