Development league question

If I add a summer development league and use 'current+future draft eligible' players, what happens the day of the draft? Do the players report to their new teams and get replaced? Are ghost players used? Do players remain with the tournament team until the summer league is over? Do tournament players even show up as a draft choice?

My draft happens on June 2, so I could start the summer league 7-10 days after the draft. However, I have a feeling drafted players, who aren't yet signed, might end up on a tournament team.

I'm probably going to have to test this I guess.

What I don't want is ghost players. I love OOTP, but sometimes documentation is lacking. I take that back, lots of times documentation is lacking.

Players that you draft that are still in the tournament will stay there until their team is done and then they magically appear on your minor league team. AI team will not take drafted players back, but you can by recalling them. As far as I know, if you take them back, the tournament team will not replace them but I don't know 100% if that's true. I think it is.

I absolutely love this new feature. It's amazing to see players on a draft list come to life in a tournament. You can evaluate stats that they actually played in and not faked and draft them and literally see them play before they even join your team. Before you'd have to set up clunky feeder leagues for that to happen now you don't even have to bother. Love it!

Thanks, you've been a HUGE help. It is an awesome feature.

Is there a way to use development leagues to mimic other leagues such as the DSL or say the Mexican League minor league system? I realize it probably can't mimic them down the the exact makeup/structure, but I am sure it could be close. I am just completely illiterate when it comes to setting the tournament/development leagues up. Any help or instruction on this would be greatly helpful and appreciated. This is something I would really like to learn about OOTP, as if you know what you are doing in terms of setup, it gives you a lot of freedom to try to mimic leagues not included in the game. (such as some of the Caribbean leagues, or a more condensed DSL, or as I said International minor league systems)

Thanks

This would make a great video tutorial if anyone knows how all of these "setups" work...I have been playing around with developmental league creation and I am never quite sure if I am doing the right things or not.

Ok, I have been playing around with this, and actually read the manual (go figure LOL) and I think I have this setup and running correctly.

Let me say, this is a far more realistic way to represent the DSL than the current default setup. I think I will be deleting the default DSL for sure. In the development/tournamnent style DSL, players will all be around 16,17,18 & 19 years of age. All players will be promoted to stateside complex leagues at age 20 automatically. Of course that doesn't mean you the GM can't promote a player earlier if you want.

The only real drawback I can see, is you won't be able to have organizations' fielding more than one DSL team. The players in this development league are pulled from the international complex, and the IC only can't hold more than 50 players at any time. This means there just isn't enough roster spaces to field two teams, as there are no injured lists in developmental leagues.

Still, if you are OK with NOT fielding more than one team per organization, this is a very viable and realistic option.

The one problem I am having is figuring out how to have development league teams pull strictly from the parent team's international complex, and nowhere else.

EDIT: So how can I say for example, DSL Orioles are affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles?

EDIT2: I think I have it figured out...you need to press on "select team affiliations"..which in words seems obvious, but it's not a button, and not obvious in game. I would suggest the developers might make this more of a "button looking" control.
