PD Mirror League (PDM)

Guys? I've got an idea - and maybe it's decent one.

Like many of you, I'm kind of "over" PT as a result of it just being too difficult to compete as an FTP team . The further into the year we go, the more upper level cards are released - to the point where Perfect and Diamond cards fill the top 6 of 8 levels in the pyramid - and the horde of Iron, Bronze, Silver, and Gold cards are not useful other than in missions and/or tournaments.

Even the private league like OL, BFF, DCFC and others are strapped to the same sequence of events where most of the lower level cards are eventually assigned to "Siberia".

BUT, what if?

What if a private league(s) was started that mirrored the roster of the Perfect Draft teams? Each team would have to have an active roster of 1 Perfect, 2 Diamonds, 6 Golds, 6 Silvers, 6 Bronze, and 5 Irons the entire calendar year?

Everything else would remain the same. This would refocus improvements on finding/getting the best Iron, Bronze, Silver and Gold cards IN ADDITION to your top 3 "superstars", the 2 Diamonds and 1 Gold.

Maybe the more important point is it wouldn't change or effect the OOTP business model.

What do you think?

This concept, in a different roster format, was tried for a couple weeks, organized by a user during Perfect Team 21, called SLOTS (mainly promoted over the Discord server, as far as I remember), and it worked out okay - however because of either friends list shenanigans or something else, there would always be one person that straggled in with a regular roster, wiped the floor and won the league. That, I think, is the only reason that concept stopped.

Despite that, I personally enjoyed it and thought it to be a refreshing take on the game. If you want to go for it this time, that'd be fun.

I thought SLOTS sounded great, but wasn't in a position to try it. I don't think the current friend list function is up to the task of organizing a setup like that though.

As I said last year, I think this concept would be fantastic for gameplay.

From my experience it's borderline impossible to get 30 people in the same league using the friends list. It's just too wonky with the settings not sticking properly and people needing to manually friend the correct 30 people. Even in BFF where most everyone knows what they're doing, the friends list still gets messed up frequently. In a situation like this where just 1 non-complying team ruins everything, I don't think it's really feasible to use the friends list for this.

I do think some kind of alternate setup to keep things interesting for more casual players is worth pursuing. What that looks like I don't know, but my point is just that it shouldn't rely on the friends list.

I think this would make for an interesting tournament format. I would also cap it at 1900 which is just above the midpoint for each level. 100 for the Perfect, 95 average for the two Diamond, 85 each for the six Gold, and so on. I expect that this could result in a lot of roster variety.

I like the idea. If nothing else it would be a cool daily/weekly tournament format, presuming it's not too hard to enforce the roster slots.

Technically SLOTS is now the Perfect Draft.

Maybe more unique tournament formats can be the answer?
