runner not held, SB counted??
Late in a game, if the runner isn’t being held and the runner advances without a throw, is that a stolen base? Is that called catcher indifference?
Are there any stats on what player has the most SB without a throw? The catchers with most catcher indifference? I am not sure how this scored. I just remember watching some games where this happened and the announcer saying a SB would not be credited |

In a real game, it’s catcher’s indifference, but I’ve never seen it in OOTP.

I've always thought that catcher's indifference is a stupid scoring rule. It'd be like if, at the end of an NBA game where one team is up by 20, so the guy with the ball is just pounding the rock for those last seconds, nobody is guarding anybody, and the guy with the ball decides to chuck up a three just before the horn. And it goes in. And then they don't give him a three-pointer. Rather, the official scorer chalks it up to "defensive indifference."
Or we've surely seen in football where a team wins the game with a TD on the last play of the game, so the extra point is just a formality and the defense barely lines up, let alone contests the actual kick. So instead of giving the kicker a successful PAT, it's "defensive indifference." Both of those would be dumb, just like indifference in baseball is. |

I think the problem is how does the game know that it is catcher indifference and not a no throw that happens with some frequency

It's called defensive indifference, not catcher's indifference. And it's when the team in the field makes no attempt to stop the runner from advancing. It's hard to describe perfectly, but you know it when you see it. In OOTP, there's no real way to be sure how the defensive team reacted to the runner going, so I don't think the game engine is equipped to create defensive indifference. One of the devs can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm actually pretty sure I have seen this in OOTP. I'm playing a 19th century league where steals are abundant (average 2.19 per game, with the top stealing team averaging 3.7 per game), and am nearly certain this is exactly what happens late in games where the score is not close.
But now that it's a thread, I keep my eye out for it and let you know. I don't have replays on, but I can at least confirm that indifference exists in game. |

I mean in OOTP I've seen the announcer chastise me for "breaking an unwritten rule" stealing a base when up big. It still counts though.

I Promise to stop stealing bases if the opponent promises to stop hitting home runs.

i paid full price for a ticket.....i don't want to see a team go through the motions.....play till the end or don't play at all. There is CI in OOTPB....pretty sure that is catchers interference. I think their should be a record on both off and def side for this play. A team comes back later but loses because the def was too afraid to challenge a runner. |
