Playoff format, edited conferences

Hi, I edited the NHL between the 21/22 and 22/23 seasons, so that the 2 conferences were split into 4 divisions each (with 4 teams), but by playoff time, the matchups are quite a bit "off". (note, I didn't change anything regarding playoffs, not sure if it's possible, or if I've overlooked anything).

I checked the standings by the end of the regular season, the top two teams in the divisions are as follows:
WEST 1 - VGK/LAK
WEST 2 - WPG/CHI
WEST 3 - COL/DAL
WEST 4 - VAN/CGY
EAST 1 - CAR/WSH
EAST 2 - NJD/PHI
EAST 3 - TOR/OTT
EAST 4 - PIT/CLB

Standings by conference were as follows:
WEST - VAN/WPG/COL/CHI/CGY/DAL/VGK/ARZ
EAST - NJD/PHI/CAR/TOR/OTT/BOS/WSH/PIT
(meaning LAK and CLB should've been in with 2 teams from each div, replacing ARZ and BOS resp.)

However, the playoff matchups are nothing like any of those:
(overall position, league/conference, in parentheses)
MIN (19/11w) at TOR (5/4e)
BOS (7/6e) at OTT (6/5e)
STL (17/9w) at PIT (14/8e)
DET (28/13e) at CLB (22/11e)
BUF (29/14e) at NJD (1/1e)
NYI (20/9e) at PHI (2/2e)
MTL (21/10e) at CAR (3/3e)
TBL (25/12e) at WSH (9/7e)

14 out of 16 playoff teams are from EAS, the top 14 from EAS that is, only the bottom 2 are out (NYR/FLA), but the 2 WES teams finished 9th and 11th in their conference.

Does anyone know why, or what I can do to get it right next season? Or do I have to revert to 2 divisions per conference to get it right?

Standings by league, "wildcard" standings both conferences (I'd like to get rid of the "wildcard" when there's 4 divs per conf, top 2 per div playoff bound.)

I just went to July 1 next season, and found that I was able to edit (to a degree) the playoff format, which I wasn't aware of, and that's probably what was wrong. Edited this now for the next season, so I'll check what it looks like come playoff time next time around.
