Mound Visits
This may seem as overkill as a request, but how about an option button for mound visits. You could visit for reasons such as:
Stamina Talk Strategy Talk mechanics or maybe even send out the Pitching coach |

There is an option for mound visits , on the second one in a single inning you have to change pitchers per MLB rules. Letter "b" during game play.

I know about that, but every time I pay a visit the pitcher tells me about how much he has left in the tank. I'm out there to discuss why are you hanging these curve balls (mechanics), or how to pitch this next guy, because right now you're getting rocked.

Interesting suggestion. How would you know which one to choose, though? Aside from maybe using "Talk Strategy" when a star hitter is up next, I'm not sure how you'd know which option to use otherwise.

1st and 3rd Freeman at the plate Acuna on deck that would be more a strategic visit. Perfect example, My SP walked 5 guys, including the pitcher, accounting for 2 runs in the 2nd inning. I went to the mound and he told me "I haven't even broken a sweat yet." If a pitcher loses command like that the pitching coach or catcher should have something for him, or just to settle him down. Do mound visits do anything?
Is the pitchers performance randomization of ratings OR.... is there a "be terrible for x batters" routine in the program? And if there is how often does a mound visit stop this? Does the visitor have to say the "right thing". |

I have always wondered about the mound visit myself. I use the bullpen warmup rule and I am pretty sure that a mound visit will buy time for the bullpen. At least, when I visit the mound with a pitcher warming up, it sure seems like they become ready faster. I have always wondered if the visit the mound option could ever help the current pitcher at all, or if it only helps him by getting the bullpen pitcher ready faster, so you can get him out of the game as quick as possible.

Per the OOTP 22 manual, and it has, if not always, been this way for a long time.

On several issues including this one the manual makes no distinction between a historical game or a fictional game. In a historical game if visit the mound, coaches influence, bringing rookies up to the major when they are "ready" etc has an effect, then players will not perform historically. We have two different games here and I hope the game engine treats it that way, even if the manual doesn't.

I would think that, at some point, a mound visit should include something like...

If a mound visit helps a reliever warm up quicker, then I would like to be able to take the 'slow' walk to the mound for the second visit, to get my reliever ready. And still have to take out the current pitcher, and say a few choice words the ump may overhear.

I think that it allows a RP more time to get warm and other than that its flavor.

Maybe the dialogue should include, "okay, cut the crap. Strike this MF out ".

who leads the league in mound visits? what are the top discussions? if we can't incorporate them into the game, having them available where we can do our own reporting would be nice. |
