Game Template compatibility
Will a game template from 21 work with 22 or will I need to create a new one?

Nope should work fine. I’ve used templates from as far back as 14 and it works

The last time I tried this, from OOTP 19 to 20, most things converted just fine. However, there probably are a few things that might not be obvious that can sneak by and prove irksome. For instance, I noticed a couple nations of leagues were switched(presumably from some changes/additions to the nations in the game).
If you have a template made in OOTP21 that you do not want to recreate in 22, my advice would be start the new game in 21 and then convert it over to 22 before you start playing using the convert save feature. That should help you avoid any bugs or other issues. |

A good thing to keep an eye out for
I guess worst case I could import the game into 22 and then save that as a template |

I just copied the file from the world templates folder in 21 and pasted it into the same folder in 22
