Changes to process

A lot to process from the PT 22 reveal, obviously a lot of work went into the development and the OOTP team definitely took a lot of the feedback on the forums and discord into consideration.

There were several changes that will force a reconsideration of the way I’ve played in the past- the limitations on defensive training at other positions, regardless of the players core defensive ratings is extremely significant and makes the defensive ratings estimation tools somewhat obsolete.

The elimination of stuff increases from transitioning starting pitchers into bullpen roles may make it less appealing to stack bullpens with multiple starting pitchers.

The biggest change is the implied increase in power value, with a decrease in contact and eye. A lot of statistical formulas have been shared and developed under the prior meta that heavily rewarded contact, it will take some time to figure out whether the PT22 changes are subtle or dramatic, and how they impact Live players who were generally unplayable the last two years of PT.

Watching last night made me very excited for next week to hurry and get here.

The changes look like they will make managers think more about their roster than in the past. No doubt that there will be a meta at some point. Players are smart. I just hope the meta is more about an ideal philosophy than only about certain players. At least then the teams will not all look the same at most levels.

The information they have provided so far hits a lot of the criticisms i had of the 21 version. I like the idea of Perfect Draft. I hate the idea of Limited Edition cards.

But if you pull one, you could sell it for a ton of PP.

I am looking forward to the PT 22 version and I'm glad to see that the position training has been reigned in. While I took advantage of that option like pretty much everyone else, it really did make a lot of the other cards in the game basically worthless (aside from mission collection purposes). This should in theory bring a different mix of strategy as well as more cards popping up on the auction market as teams can't just make any mid grade defensive CF with good offensive traits into higher end defensive LF or RF. Same with career 2B or SS being moved to other positions they either never or hardly played in real life to improve defensive ratings. It was a cool feature to use in PT19 and 20, but it definitely wore out its welcome in 21.

I have been pretty busy with work, so I don't anticipate I can put in the time to be competitive this year and get to Gold+. So I'm really leaning toward building a team theme and playing for fun (even if it means a whole lot of L's). I love the idea of Perfect Draft as that will be a way to earn a little PP/pack equity to put into my team without needing have lots of badass cards in my collection to keep up (like tournaments), plus stay engaged with some of the various other cards in PT. Really stoked about it.

I was kind of expecting to snub PT22, but I'm really impressed by the changes and I hope they all play out well.

Tip of the hat to the team!

I'm excited for PT22! Each year the game gets better and better and the changes Kris talked about I think are going to improve the game that much more. Can't wait until next Friday!
