Yah, it would be nice, and to make it even better - a news item! And also the other way around - can't clinch playoffs anymore

Would be nice to have even a mention that the Stanley Cup Playoffs are happening as well. Like the messages you get for the accursed World Cup...

Absolutely agreed. Plus, the Stanley Cup playoffs are pretty much straightforward, there are much more intricated systems in place especially in European leagues, and discrete news items would go a long way in making the user more comfortable with this more complicated systems.
