OOTP22 Import Question

First post, but I've been playing OOTP21 since its release. Will an in-process season in OOTP21 import into OO22 without losing anything, such as settings? For example, I have my league set to use historical transactions but to also allow minimal trading. Will this come over intact or will I have to check all settings to be safe?

Also, is it better to wait until the offseason to import to a new version?

Yes your settings will come over.

You can import at anytime. You'll get several recommendations on this. I've been importing my leagues at various points of the season for the past several versions and have had no problems. YMMV

Always make a backup of your .lg folder, before and after.

Always make regular backups of your .lg folder.

Thanks for the clarification. I always make sure my game data files are in my regular backups! Been burned one too many times in the past by drives going bad.

I've imported my game from v4 through v21 and will of course move it into v22. Settings have always come along, views need to be rebuilt.

While this is true it never hurts to quickly go through the settings menus and take a look. There is a chance a new added feature has been turned on by default and it may be something you don't want in your game. Story lines and league evolution come to mind from the past (though I don't recall as issue). This year base coaches are coming in and, per Matt, it is undecided how that will be handled for imports. Enabled with coaches being created and teams needing to hire, Disabled and one has to enable it, something else?

If for no other reason you may want to at least take a look through before continuing. You seem set for backups What I do is as soon as import is done I make a backup before making any moves or changes.

Also keep in mind you can import it again from v21 if you happen to continue and find something wrong. Your v21 game is not disturbed in the backup process.

There's always a few things that have to happen on import, so always the potential for issues.

As usual, we recommend updating at the end of the season as that is usually the time that causes the least "damage". At any other point, as the AI is updated all at once, you will run into cases where AI teams will completely shift lineups around as they re-evaluate, and if they're currently waiting on player offers, that can cause some weird problems. But it should work at virtually any point in the season.

I'd like to piggyback on Baby Ruth's post. OOTP 21 was also my first version. I love it and I think I understand the import process except for one aspect, the new minor league system. I started OOTP 21 with the 2020 Cleveland Indians. In OOTP 22 the Indian's Mahoning Valley minor league affiliate no longer exists. When I import into OOTP 22, what happens to my players that were assigned to Mahoning Valley?

When you import, it will not shift to the new minor league system. That will only happen by default in new games. If you want to import and shift to the new minor league system, you will have to set that up manually.

Hi,

I have games running in 20, I do not have 21 but have preordered 22. I understand that I will need to d/l a demo version of 21 to correctly import my 20 files to 22. Is that correct? I have found demo files up to 20, however I am unable to locate a demo for 21.
