Coming soon...

New thread has been started in DYNASTIES for the Alternative Pacific Coast League.

What if the Pacific Coast League had been able to break away as an Independent League in 1958, and forever limited the MLB to only two teams on the West Coast?

Nice "teaser" to what should be a good read! I'll be following. And I just added two more books that you show to my reading list.

Looking for a little ballpark help...

Specifically, I'm trying to find the correct 1958 3D ballparks to use in the APCL league in the following list. However, I fully expect some of these have not been created, so I will need alternatives - or possibly use the OOTP 22 stadium builder to put together something close.

If any of you have suggestions, please let me know.

Preferred ballparks... UPDATED

Portland - Providence Park, Vaughn Street Park if I must.
Sacramento - Edmonds Field
Spokane - Avista Stadium .................................................. .......(got it already)
Seattle - Sicks Stadium .................................................. ...........(got it already)
San Diego - Westgate Park, Lane Field if I must

Hollywood - Gilmore Field .................................................. ........(got it already)
Vancouver - Capilano Stadium
Oakland - Emeryville Park
Phoenix - Phoenix Memorial Stadium..........................................( Rickwood Park is similar)
Salt Lake City - Derks Field

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Pretty sure Eriq Jaffe has already done Lane Field and one of the Portland stadiums if you go poking around in the 3D stadium section

A flawed assumption. MLB's reaction to this would have been to add franchises in the West and attempt to drive the new kids off the block. Likely they would have succeeded, too. A bidding war for players would have broken out, and the Westies would have gone the way of the Federal League.

Can't really model this kind of economic competition in OOTP. Yet.

My version of this is to bring in select western teams in 1946--a post WWII expansion to 32 teams. I enjoy it greatly, having run it numerous times and OOTP versions.

Alternative histories are ALWAYS flawed. Water finds the easiest path and thus true history is recorded. My intention is not to create something that was "likely" but something that was "possible" given a different set of variables. My original purpose was to create a scenario where the MLB lost its "bully pulpit" and the PCL thrived.

Actually, there was a ballpark before PGE (Old Phoenix Municipal Stadium) which opened in 1936 and sat near the corner of South Central Ave. and Mohave St. The relocated SF Seals (Giants) played there 2 years before moving to Tacoma.

That's the one I'd like to use - but probably won't find a 3d model. (picture attached)

Looks like Rickwood Field is the closest I get to Old Phoenix Memorial in a 3D format... unless the new options in OOTP22 can give me something better.

Oldest stadium in the country, 1910. Before I met my wife, she was in Alabama for awhile, and saw Jordan play there. I need to get there someday.

Turns out I'm having a hard time finding the 10 historical minor league parks in 3D format to use in my APCL. Not a surprise. I've got 3 of them (Avista, Sicks, and Gilmore), but to be honest, I doubt I'm going to find the others (Capilano, Derks, Edmonds, Emeryville, Old Phoenix, Providence, and Westgate).

Something I noticed, however, reviewing what photos still exist...

Capilano, Derks, Edmonds, and Emeryville have an outfield template very similar to Gilmore. It's possible I could change some textures on Gilmore and get those 3 parks. And Westgate is a similar template to Sicks.

That would leave Old Phoenix (which has a squared off center field) and Providence (which is an LA Coliseum type layout).

I can use War Memorial Stadium in Buffalo which is in 3D format for Providence (even though the left-right outfield orientation is switched), which leave me with Old Phoenix memorial Stadium.

And that is where Rickwood Park comes in Oldest ballpark in the country, and the future home of the APCL Phoenix Firebirds (unless I find a better one).

Only question now is, How hard is it to change textures in a 3D ballpark? (UPDATE: Changing textures is a piece of cake

PS: I've included photos of the 10 parks I'm talking about over the next two posts.

My modification of Gilmore Field for my APCL Hollywood Stars. My current plan is to use Gilmore as the base template for Capilano, Derks, Edmonds, and Emeryville. If that works, I'll have 5 of the 10 ballparks.

PS: Depending on how this goes, I may change my mind as I go.

Looking for the Rockpile stadium in Buffalo. Actual name is War Memorial Stadium.
Many thanks.
Wondering if OOTP21 stadiums will work in 22 ? Not that I have any clue as to make a stadium.
I saw MANY outstanding renderings of old stadiums. The ability of these creators is astonishing and I thank you.

To clarify, Gilmore Field is actually eriqjaffe's creation. I don't have the talent to build these parks in Sketchup - all I'm doing is modifying backgrounds and textures to try and represent unavailable parks using a completed one that looks similar.

Ok guys (and girls if there's any out there),

Here's a modification of Gilmore Field to try and simulate Derks Field in Salt Lake City. What do you think? Is it different enough or would I be better off using an unrelated ballpark and just "calling it" Derks?

After flipping back and forth between my Gilmore and Derks modifications, I wasn't happy, so I went for a ride and grabbed some lunch. Coming home and looking again, I think I need to have more differentiation between parks to constantly NOT being reminded I simply changed textures.

On the other hand, that means I will have to grab some 3D fictional parks, modify some textures on those, and rename them to the ballparks I need for my 1958 scenario.

Silvam14, eriqjaffe, and other have created a lot of fictional and minor league options, so I'm sure I can find options that will fit my league. As time goes on, I'll have to do the same thing anyway as new stadiums are built and expansion teams need a place to play... just have to make sure the story I tell pulls it all together... and maybe eventually the ballpark creator in OOTP will give me some added abilities to create these things.

So, I'll keep Gilmore and go on a new search for the others.

Stay tuned.
