Releasing a player retained by another team

I searched the boards but couldn't find an answer to this question. So normally if I release a player who has a multiyear contract left it makes me pay the whole contract upfront and puts it in Misc. Player Expenses. What happens if I do the same thing but for a player that has part of his salary retained by another team? Does that other team have to pay all the retained amount at once the same as I would if I were paying his whole contract?

Those teams will have that salary applied over time, no matter which option you decide to use to release the player.
