Team option exercised automatically

I've had this happen a few times over the years:

I sim to the first day of the off-season, and am notified of player opt-out decisions, new budget, player options, etc and also get the emails telling me to make a decision on my team options. Once in awhile I'll click on the email and see, "this message has expired" without having the option to execute or void. I'm quite sure there was no vesting language in the contract. So, the option is picked up whether I like it or not (usually not). Has anyone else experienced this?

If you have a "meddling" owner, sometimes they will exercise contract options, they have also been known to sign free agents IIRC
